Bargaining with VZW for a droid

So here is my plan:
I'm up for a NE2 next month or so which entitles me to $100 credit. Right now I see the price of Droid online at VZW for $199. NE2 would bring that down for me to $99. Now I've heard this preferred customer discount for a new droid for $99 (please correct me if I am wrong, here is a link to a previously posted flyer from another thread http://androidforums.com/attachment...roid-150-verizon-existing-customers-flyer.jpg ). While I haven't formally been recognized as a preferred customer, I was either going to bring the flyer with me when i go to the VZW store or mention it over the phone to net another $99 discount. Also, I was going to ask (and I've heard they've done this before) to use my NE2 earlier because of the holiday season. So here is my master plan:

Droid Online Price: $199
Ne2 discount -$100
Preferred discount-$100
Total $0!!!!

Do you guys think this is possible? I've been a customer since 2004 with no late payments so I'm hoping maybe some sweet talk will acknowledge me as a preferred customer? Also, do you guys think bringing the flyer with me in the store will work? Or mentioning it over the phone? Then again, is the driod price online is the same as the price in store?

Thanks for ur help/advice.

ps sorry mod if I broke any rules posting this thread!! I read the guidelines so I think im okay but if not sorry!!

When I used my $50 NE2 discount I was told that it could not be applied with other discounts except for the contract discount itself. That doesn't mean you shouldn't try to get the best price you can negotiate. :)

They might've said that but i think they do allow other discounts with NE2 case in point being online discounts, right? I feel like the reps sometimes say certain things to make a larger bill/sale, but who knows i guess :p

calling *611 and trying to bargain with them is definitely your best bet. as a whole, those people are basically the biggest idiots employed by the entire verizon corporation, so they should be much easier to bargain with compared to retail store reps.

i was able to have my NE2 date updated from 3 Feb 2010 to 6 Nov 2009, after explaining all 3 lines on my account were going to renew, one line upgrade to a data acct, and one line just freaking wanted the Droid

I wonder what it takes to get VIP status. I've been a customer of theirs, with no breaks in service, since 1999 (coincidentally, that was the last year I got a Motorola phone, the Timeport, before this Droid).

Since 1999:thinking: I don't think Verizon was around yet. Its not just base on length of time. In my opinion is all about how $$$ they believe you will bring in to verizon.

That was the flyer I got. From what they explained to me the preferred customer is bacially the same thing as NE2 I could not use both. I tried to finagle another $50 out of them but they weren't having it. I asked for a manager to explain and basically that is what I was told. I am on the same page with you, but no it will not work.

Aw so my master plan is a huge fail... Unless....It works over the phone? I know the phone reps are nice ppl maybe they'll take it?

I wouldn't count on it working. You're only entitled to one discount at a time, but if you still have a $100 NE2 credit (which many folks still do, but will go away after this upgrade). You probably will get them to move up your upgrade, if it's a month or less. But be nice and say please :)

Also, to be a VIP, you have to be on a plan of $59.99 or higher for a certain number of months, be a customer for over a year, and not have any late payments. Reps have no way to make you VIP... you have to "earn" it

my plan's been more than $59.99 for about 10 years, and I've never made a late payment, it gets automatically paid. I guess they just don't like me. :(

They started right around then. They were some conglomeration of other Baby Bells. VZW is kinda different from the mothership though. They are a separate company that is a partnership between Verizon and Vodaphone (I think?)

Im a VIP and I can get "ne1", which is just $50 off if i decide to upgrade within a year, however my ne2 is still a $100 discount.

I have not heard anything about the ne2 going to $50.

When I got the droid (ordered the day is was released), i got the $100 online discount, and the $100 ne2 discount bringing me to a total of $99. which i was very happy with. less than i paid for the pos storm.

Dial *611 and mention the ad on vzwshop.com. I did and I didn't even have to fight them and my new every 2 isn't till march. I got the phone for 200 and they credited my account 50 bucks bringing the phone to 149.

Hmm If this is so, then I can maybe net the droid for $50, which is a great price. I'll give that a shot once my credit card arrives :p

well it seems like my master plan totally failed. I called in to ask if I could be entitled to my NE2 now (it activates in feb 2010) and I was denied. When I called in to the store, they mentioned that I can upgrade the phone but I cant apply a discount to it....very weird
seems like my dreams of getting a droid are dwindling fast :(

Oh, they're super serious about the upgrade date! I went to the store on Black Friday, 5 days before my upgrade date, and they told me no way. lol
