I would. They may be taking the p*ss with the 2.1 update, but waiting doesn't bother me, even if they do keep changing the dates. I'm still happy with my Xperia, because I bought it knowing what I was getting, I don't miss something I never had so I have nothing to moan about at the moment.

Voted yes-for the same reasons stated by CuBz. My carrier (Rogers) really doesn't have anything now (or coming in the near future) that looks significantly better.

The more I use the X10 (and ignore the naysayers), the more I like it.

Having had a Sony Phone since the T610 Way back in 2002/2003
Ive always been a fan, every year another sony, and yes they have their problems, even back then, the Joysticks used to sick etc. But yet i still got another sony next time, the fact that the x10, has been abit of a disapoinment still wont put off.
Now ive cooled down after the update was put back, im confident sony will get it to us and will have sorted their issues out. I may give HTC some serious consideration next time, But Would still get a Sony if i liked it.

I like my X10, it hasn't disappointed me in any way (yet!) and I would certainly look at what the next offering Sony have when my contracts up.

The biggest competitor at the time was a HTC Desire and I thought long and hard about it, but I couldn't love a phone that was brown. Shallow as hell I agree, but my X10 is beautiful and the Desire looked like poop (literally!) plus having played with both and not having had an android before I preferred the Sony's feel and looks of the UI.

It's good to finally see some supporters of SE. I'm sick of seeing everyone moaning about them being behind with the updates, as OmniCoRp said, it is their first android phone so maybe they will do better with upcoming android phones. Besides, the Xperia X10 is a great phone nonetheless

NOt buying from SE does not mean that i or anyone else Hates SE.I have a Blu-ray player from Sony and two Vaio Laptops, a Sony camera, in fact i like Sony products. But the way i see things Smartphones are not their strength. If you look at HTC or Samsung you can see that there are multiple choices you can make Android or Winmo, and you have to admit that their support it's not that good either. I like my X10 but next time i change my phone, i think i will get a HTC(again).owned a HTC hermes, diamond, htc touch HD and they were all great.
:D.Don't hate me for this.:)

No. I bought this phone believing the initial update schedule - including 2.2 in Q4. It's still a good product, but I could have waited a month or two and gotten better for the same price. I didn't wait because the press releases indicated that SE was going to be updating this phone relatively freqeuntly.

I will get a SE when my contracts up in 20 months, yeah the ****ed this on up big style but what you got to remember this IS there FIRST android phone unlike HTC and samsung etc they have all had older droid phones. So there was bound to be teething problems but as the saying goes what don't kill you makes you stronger, and I think SE will learn a LOT from this balls up and with there next droid phone we should (fingers crossed) get a much better experience

Well if you are like me I like gadgets and therefore that's why I went to an android platform. Wanted something different and customizable. I think a lot of people are disappointed in the upgrade just because we want the latest and greatest now.
If you put that aside and look at the phone it does what it is supposed to do. Phone rings press answer and wow someone speaking on the earpiece(Cool).
True volume is maybe a little low but a lot of times I use it connected to my 1000w car system:). What a feeling when a client is unhappy and the subwoofers are pumping like crazy.
It synchronizes my contacts and calendar with no problems.
Screen is great. Quality is great too.
Timescape some people like it some don't, but no one is forcing you to use it.
Battery life was awful, but Sony corrected that fairy fast.
Most software works great with it. Yes 2.1 and 2.2 will bring us more software options.
Wifi and bluetooth are flawless. I can go on and on...

I had a HTC Magic from Rogers before and it had it's share of unhappy followers and if you look at any forums there are loads of unhappy owners of other phones also.

So will I buy a Sony again? If it is the best that my carrier offers for my needs then yes. Will I boycott them because of giving us a great phone but not being fast enough on an update then No.

I'll be quick

Personally had Sony since 2005 (about 12 handsets lol) and mainly because they were cutting edge, ahead of the technology around

Same applies with the X10 - only android phone at the time to offer 8mp camera, certainly best looking and being able to do everything in one place - twitter, email etc etc was a major pulling factor - oh and it wasn't an iPhone

Reason i say that - i'm sick of every iPhone user saying we should get one - yet can't justify why - except that its an iPhone

As for next handset - well i was in another thread discussing maybe dropping the X10 for HTC Desire HD - but realistically it doesn't do anything that the X10 doesn't, except flash, but seriously - any website i visit with flash will be through the laptop anyway

So next handset will defo be a Sony - why - cos they're like classic cars, beautifully styled, elegant yet old

I probably won't because I don't feel they respect their customers. I didn't know anything about smartphones when I got this phone, except I wanted an open system because of previous experience with the iPhone.

I took this model because it had a bigger screen and Android, not even knowing I couldn't update it to 2.2 myself... I need the big screen because I browse the web a lot and like to see the whole page, so less unzooming = bigger text, and I think the X10 does a great job for that.

I also thought HTC was a shitty company has I have never heard of them, and heard they were from Korea. Seems I was wrong.

Next time I'll probably buy a phone that already has customs ROMs running on it, and a big screen!

so many users here accept the fact that it was their first phone ... please if you get a new girlfriend and she had no boyfriend before and withing the first week she cheats on you that would be ok because she never been in a relationship before?

can you guys understand that this is economics? the reason the firmware gets delayed is not because sony is making sure it's going to be a good one! it's because they have pulled the resources and started working on the x10 replacement

they do the opposite of Apple with the iPhone, while apple keep things quiet and deliver on time something professional, SE like to bolster the upcoming features of the device, how great it will be, how the end users will get everything etc. Come delivery time they fail but make promises that it will get better we will release updates yet not only months after its released the resources are pulled off the project and dumped into the next thing

it really comes to economics! if the hardware can't do multi touch then why would they bother with it? 2.2 froyo on the x10? dream on! too much work for Sony to optimize the firmware to make it work with no multi touch, where is the return on investment? do you honestly think that they care? they care about profit margin, release a new phone with 2.2 same spec as the X10 but with multi touch and a proper flash camera and there you go! X12 or whatever it's called, people will go mental for it because it has 2.2

why would they spend money and resources in the x10 anymore? it's almost a year old, yes the hardware was good about a year ago but now? not enough memory to run 2.2 properly, hell even 2.1 and 16mil colors? not enough memory for that as well, i mean i use google maps and email and my memory down to 10%

what you guys don't understand is that SE has a way do doing business and this is their way, htc is a little different and apple is completely different

I purchased the X10 because of the screen and the looks and the fact that 2.1 was imminent, that was months ago before the iphone4 came out, my requirements was good screen and full exchange support for multiple accounts, to me the X10 did not deliver that when i purchased it but apparently the 2.1 version will and really 2.2 version will have what the iPhone4 has ... full support for multiple exchange accounts inc calendar and contacts

SE always lie, i remember the Satio (did not own one btw), and the M600i which i owned and still have in a box somewhere, promises were made then they dropped it and got the P1 out, SE always does this, they spruce to get interest then come out with half assed product then expect you to upgrade

not from me .... the x10 is the last SE product i purchased

I have been through many smartphones and X10 is by far the best I have had. I always choose wisely when getting a new phone, and all the information I researched about the X10 was correct, I get what I wanted and that is all I need at the moment

I voted no. This was only my second SE phone...my first one being the K790a. I love the X10, it has been a damn good phone for me...the only reason I traded away my Nexus One for it was because I liked the looks, the screen and seen 2.1 was coming soon and it was bringing 720p video recording (which was important to me). What I didn't know was it didn't support 16m colors...which I could have sworn was just because of 1.6os...but SE decided to not include it in 2.1 either...and so far they claim its not even in the plans for the UXP update according to Mr Rickard from the SE blog. Don't get me wrong, like I said the X10 is great, and I still love it more than when I had the Nexus One running froyo...but I don't like the way SE keep delaying things...I don't like how they don't even face the music when they piss everyone off. Its simple, THEY DONT CARE! Anyways, I don't wanna rant anymore...I didn't even want to in the first place lol....my next phone I will be heading back to HTC....someone I shouldn't have left in the first place.

I would and most likely probably still will. I'm not as disappointed as others about the delaying of 2.1 because my Xperia works how I want it anyway. My last 3 phones have been Sony devices for a good reason. I believe Sony are capable of having their Android devices down to an art, like they did their Walkman and Cybershot phones, and like HTC do now.

The poll should have at least one other option other than a Flat YES or NO, as I explain below. When it comes to the future, nothing can be totally Black or White, IMO.

So with that understanding, here I go. I voted NO and here is why. I like the hardware aspect of the X10, and I find myself "Settling" for the 1.6 OS as there is nothing I can do regarding this fiasco! But I should not have to Settle on anything when I make a NEW purchase as there are just too many other options, Normally. Regarding the purchase of another phone from SE in the future, as mentioned, I said NO, under this criteria, "The hardware is great, but there are issues, wherein the purchase would require SE promises to amend things to the phone in the future (Wether it be a month or several) to make the phone what it is being billed at rather than what it currently is". Under those circumstances, I would NOT buy another SE phone or anything else they make. However, if the reverse is true and the phone is all it should be at the time of purchase (hardware and software ) and I would not be relying on their ""Promises" to make the phone whole, than YES, I would buy their phone. So you see, I voted no, but I could have also voted YES, but since there was no options for a "Disclaimer", I voted for the usual situation opposed to the ideal situation.

In the ten or so years that I've had mobiles this is only my second Sony and my first droid phone and I voted yes, I would buy another Sony. Reading some of the other posts I have gathered that this is Sonys' first foray into the android market with their phones and my x10 does what I want it to do. Had it for almost three months and whilst I was looking forward to the update the delay is not going to make me change my mind about my phone. A few friends at work have iphones and iphone4s and my Sony can do almost anything they can and sometimes out perform them (8mp camera) and at work they sometimes struggle to get a signal whereas I get a signal no problem (im with tmobile by the way). The only thing I was looking forward to was the hd recording and possibly the 5 home screens. My wife has one as well and she is happy with hers too. I use the gps when I'm out running and use the tracker booster app and it does the job no problem. Ok that's my tuppence worth in, thanks. Ric

can the xperia do multiple full exchange accounts with email calendar and task? nope

The experia 8mp camera is not as good as your friends 5mp iphone4, apple is not stupid and the bigger sensor does make a difference, i do quite a bit of photography (SLR gear) and the more light that hits the sensor the better, the sensor in the sony is very very small compared to the iPhone so in low light or average the iPhone4 has the advantage, mega pixels is not everything, with a smaller sensor but higher megapixel count you get more artifacts .. simple

I think the whole phone signal is crap, it all depends on where you live and what operator you have, in my case i'm with vodafone and here i have no issues, i can quickly point out that an iPhone4 with optus sim in my house has lousy signal but if i put that sim card in my xperia and my voda in the iPhone4 then the iPhone4 has better signal.

I have played with the iPhone4 so please until you actually use one don't be a sheep and repeat what other sheep say. I cannot see myself using the Iphone4 as in talking on it while i do the "death grip" or whatever they call it, it's just uncomfortable. And to rub salt in ... the iPhone4 screen is not as big as ours but it's stunning!

Having used the iPhone and the Xperia i think they are both good phones, in some cases the iPhone is better in some the Xperia is better but overall to me for now the iPhone wins, have SE release 2.2 with full multiple exchange accounts and 16mil colors and HD recording and a better keyboard then the Xperia all the way.

Let's be honest and admit the Xperia has some shocking features, the most annoying off them off the top of my head:

  • absolutely shocking keyboard (HTC is miles ahead and i had to install it so i can actually use the phone)
  • too many clicks to make a phone call, even with shortcuts
  • the USB port at the top of the phone ... really what bright spark came up with that idea?
