Hello!

I'm new around here, looking for some help with my motorola milestone.
I have some pre-loaded apps (some quickoffice trial ),which I would like to remove/uninstall from my android.

If anyone knows anything, please tell me.

I'm looking forward for answers.

thanks.

There's no "might be" about it... ;-)

Each to his own of course. I'm lazy so as long as it works - reliably - I'll take "easy" every time.

lol yes I'm lazy too when it comes to computer work for sure. I do enough of it so it does get annoying to do things the long way. I do like to know the long way just in case I need to do it that way. Also this long way is free, from what I've heard from others you need to pay for that app. I could be wrong as I'm not 100% on that. Never bothered to look into it as I like things that are FREE :D

I rooted my Milestone in 15 seconds by downloading and running Universal Androot from the Marketplace. :D Haven't seen any disadvantages of doing it since then.

You can then remove any pre-installed app in a couple of easy steps. For example, here are the step by step instructions to removing Motonav trial (which takes up lots of space btw).

You can also remove any application if you know the apk name and the package name.
For example, to remove the QuickOffice trial:
use QuickOffice.apk in step 5, and com.qo.android.moto in step 9.

Here is a good list of apk and package names.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, but is such root also good.Doesn't it make phone work worse or something like this?

I have to be sure,because when I root my phone,if I brick it,I lose the warranty,they won't repair it.

I own a phone about 14 days, and I'm not sure If I want to root it so soon,so If there's any other option to delete pre-installed apps, please tell me.

btw thanks for all the answers.

Hey,I also tried to install IGO navigation on my milenstone,I had all the needed files on my phone (almost 1GB of files). Then I went to apps installer, and then clicked on IGO it said: "this is a sistem app,do you want to replace it". Then I clicked install and it said: "app not installed". Is it because my phone isn't rooted,do I have to root if I want to do that, too??

Hey, unfortunately you can't uninstall (and probably replace too) the system apps without rooting your phone.

At first I didn't want to root either, for the same reasons as you. :) But later I gave in to all the benefits of rooting. :) No, your phone won't run slower from doing this. Rooting allows you to modify the system side of the phone, meaning you can uninstall system software or use advanced functionality and advanced apps that require system access. However, rooting tools like Universal Androot will ask you for permission every time if some app needs to make system modifications.

Maybe there is like a 0.001% of bricking your phone, but I am not sure.
Anyway, if you decide to try it out, download Universal Androot from the market and after that you just have to make 1 click, wait for 15 seconds and you are rooted. :)

You can then install iGo for example from here. This version works on my Milestone without any problems.
