Fascinate vs droid x

I own and love the DroidX. The Fascinate display might look nice, I just can't get by with the lack of memory in this device; 2GB internal vs 8GB internal for the DX. Plus the DX comes with a 16GB memory card in addition. And of course you can remove (and must remove) the Bing search engine from the Fascinate. Whoever heard of putting Bing in an Android (Google) phone? Silly, if you ask me. And next, the DX already has Froyo (2.2) as well as longer battery life according to reviews. Lots of reasons in favor of the DX. And as a company, I think Motorola (who made the original Droid) has a better track record than Samsung.

I do NOT like what Motorola has done in their aims to lock the DX phone and prevent modifications. But the development community seems to be overcoming most of these issues, and I've been able to customize my DX fairly well.

I was going to return my Droid for the fascinate (Still in my 30 days) until I went and compared them, the DX seems to have a better screen/phone size ratio, push buttons, 3 way noise canceling etc. The fascinate is a good phone and isn't locked down. The buy one get one free Fascinate deal is certainly better as well. They are both good android phones. The fascinate has a better screen and GPU, everything else about the Moto's hardware is probably better or equal. I'd say go to the store and get whichever one you like more. I'm sticking with the Droid-X

m currently eligible for an upgrade and I'm trying to decide between the fascinate and the droid x. I have read reviews on both and I'm split on the two What are your opinions on the two?
Definitely Droid X. I just returned (with a heart-ache) the Fascinate. Been playing with both of them for about 2 weeks. And decided to stay with Dx.
Now, if Dx has Fascinate's display, that would be the SUPER-PERFECT phone. Right now, its just Perfect. :D

Right, I also returned a Fascinate after a week for an X. To the OP, they are both great phones, you just have to decide which one is best for you.

I call them pretty much even. ;)

I have been running the Fascinate side by side with the Droid X for about two weeks and the X is the better device. The reasons are numerous. The most important to me is call quality and signal strenth, In these two areas the Fascinate is not even close to the X. There are many other reasons as well and I would be happy to answer any specific questions you have. It would be much easier to help you if we new what the most important aspects of the device are to you.

How did you manage to obtain both phones simultaneous?

Buy a Fascinate and get an X, lol...if it's eligible. That being said, I got my wife the Fascinate....it is an amazing phone, the 4" screen size is much nicer than the 4.3" on the X, the 854x480 pixels make the screen too long, and not wide enough...not to mention the Super Amoled is gorgeous versus the LCD which is washed out. the Fascinate just feels right...it's lighter, thinner, and once 2.2 hits and the GPS gets righted, it's gonna be a beast....still can't believe the GPS is borked...but my Incredible's GPS is fine, so we're good here...

if you use it to watch movies, you can set the color temperature...I SAID YOU CAN SET THE COLOR TEMPERATURE in the video player...Warm is the correct one, just like your TVs at home should be set to...closest 6500Kelvin which is the correct temp. I don't know if it affects the rest of the phone as I haven't really played with it that much, wifey won't let me, lol...that's why I have a Droid and Droid Incredible...

but posting this in an X forum, of course most will say the X, go to the Fascinate forum, you'll see the same towards the Sammy, go play...test...feel...decide...you might think the X is TOO BIG as some do...you may thing the Fascinate is too light as some do...that's why there are many choices out there....if there weren't, you might as well just go buy an iPhone

To me watching all the Galaxy screens is like watching a color tv with the color turned up too high. They seem to attract people though (and Samsung is playing to that crowd) and anything displaying more accurate colors like the X's screen will certainly seem washed out to the untrained eye. But besides the way too bright colors, the resolution is noticeably lower so text is just not as crisp - something that really bothers me about those screens. I can get used to the over saturation but the pixelation will drive me away.

Also the contrast is high so the Amoled does 'pop' more which naturally makes it an attractive display at first glance. In time as the resolution increases and they tone down the over saturation a bit, they'll be unbeatable, but right now, for me, LCD is still king.

The screen on the X is still pretty good IMO, having them side by side the samsung does have better color. However, I don't watch alot of movies on my phone, and either is good enough for youtube, my TV at home isn't super AMO led and I still like it, non of my monitors are LED either and they function fine. Asking in a droid-X forum is going to give you biased results. I know I decided against the samsung phone after seeing it. It just seemed to have cheaper build quality and the screen was smaller yet sucked more power. But I hear samsung does not tend to support their phones as well as others, and that is important to me. Also the call quality on my X exceeds any phone I have ever owned. The nose cancelation works so well I can walk down a buisy street with cars driving by at 50mph and still hold a conversation. I do wish the X has the better GPU, but I'd rather have a working GPS, Battery Life, Call Quality, and Product support. Especially after seeing what software updates can do for smartphones.

However Moto's E-fuse is pissing me off. But I think it's more likely someone will break the code for the bootloader than the GPS issue getting fully resolved.

My Sister got the Samsung phone because she did not like the hump on the Droid-X so there are all kinds of reasons to select a phone :)

I am getting a free droid x since my fascinate is considered doa because of the call quality and gps. I'll have a droid x and the other fascinate I got and will have a lot of time to compare the two. I LOVE the screen on my fascinate but I need the noise canceling the gps to work and I don't need too feel like I'm talking into a tin can. I'll be having fun comparing my toys :)

I haven't had the fascinate but I had the vibrant for about 10 days. Very good phone it was snappy, screen is unbeatable except for reading text on the web you have to zoom in for everything no exaggeration, screen size is also great. As others have said gps is spotty at best. Also it just doesn't seem as reliable as the DX for ex. I try to show off the features of the vibrant and it will do something weird or lose signal. Now the droid x on the other hand is rock solid its great at everything plus motorola seems to stand by there products and resolve there products issues if any much quicker. Which honestly makes me feel a whole lot better. Honestly I don't know why you would pick the fascinate over the droid x only reason that would seem feasible would be for looks if you don't like how the X looks. You can say the fascinates screen is so much better bla bla I doubt you will ever watch enough movies to ever truly make it the deal breaker and there aren't really any games on the android platform for the fascinates gpu to have any advantage over the X's either except for bragging rights. But that's just my 2 cents hope this helps :)

Get the X...unless you want your screen to look like neon... Bottom line

it does not look neon, don't give the OP false claims

remember, this isn't a TV, so a little oversaturation isn't a bad thing. a phone that has a vibrant screen is a good thing...more contrast means you can view it better outside...

great debate, but go and try them together and make a choice, you can't go wrong with either phone IMHO.

or you can wait for the Incredible HD (check out the Desire HD, should be basically same phone)

Here's my experience for what it's worth.....

I had a perfect Droid Incredible that got REAL buggy after Froyo, primarily resets in the middle of phonecalls....I use this for business, that was completely unacceptable.

So Verizon moved the upgrade date on one of my phonelines up a month so I could get the Fascinate. It is a beautiful phone, great size, great weight, interesting interface. I would had loved to had kept it, but here is why I didn't

GPS locks on after 2-10 minutes. I use this on the road and need GPS to work, I couldn't take staying parked for up to 10 minutes so I could get directions. And once it locked, the voice directions are nearly inaudible.

Reverb of my own voice in the earpiece. When I talked I could hear my own voice as if I was talking into a fan. VERY annoying. Speaker was a bit tinny on voice conversations and people couldn't hear me when I spoke on speakerphone sometimes.

Calendar problem which sealed the deal on getting rid of it. You could not make your Google Calendar you default for setting appointments, it stays on Phone Calendar. Set an appointment by creating new appointment, after setting the time and details I had to make sure to have it set up to google calendar or it would only set on the phone and not back up to my Outlook calendar. And if I had to edit an appointment if I forgot, I had to create a new appointment because it would not allow me to change it to google calendar. If I wanted to set an appointment by tapping on the time in the day calendar, it would not give me the option to change it to google calendar at all. Unacceptable bug IMHO.

Little quirks that bothered me....

Blue tint to the screen

No google search widget

Lack of widget choices

No Froyo

I would say the Droid X came with most of those options fixed for me.
