i dont want any of the apps updating anything in the background on my desire and most of them dont, as i have changed settings in them to not update.
now facebook seems to think it is a diffrent kettle of fish all together. i have changed the settings within the app to never update.
i have changed the settings on my phone to not "enable always on internet"
so i am at a loss why everytime i look at the widget for facebook it is updating every hour.
i dont really want to get rid of it but if i cannot find a solution then i will get rid of it.
i like to think that if i decide to alter settings then those choices i made will be followed out.
also why is it managing to do it when i have changed the settings within phone to not allow always on internet.
grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Faceache does this on mine as well, as does Footprints, Stocks and Google Talk.

All of these are set to No Updates, I have Background Data off, and I have repeatedly tried to stop them running.
Hit Force Stop (new Jedi mind trick?), and it disappears. Next time I check, the blasted things are running again.

I don't use them at all - being able to remove them completely would be good, but without de-branding, or Orange coming to their corporate senses, I can't see that happening. The ability to disable them completely would be an acceptable compromise...

There are a couple of threads along the same lines as this.

Footprints, Stocks, Peep & Friendstream all update on mine & use data when I never use them.

How do you switch background data off? Presumably it turns back on again when something wants to sync?

Don't think so. "Enable always on data" if you untick that, it will turn on when things sync, but I think background will stop all sync?

Its in mobile networks settings anyway. Or it used to be on 2.1 I haven't got it in 2.2, but im not on a standard rom so not sure.

Cheers.

Either way stuff using data when you never use the app is irritating.
