This may sound strange but a few days ago I decided to have my WIFI 'Always On', and since then my battery seems to last alot longer.

I have tried switching it off for a day to see if it was just coincidence, but with WIFI turned off, my battery died alot quicker.

I thought it could be that when connecting through 3G it has to connect through the mass which could be miles away, but through WIFI it only has to connect to my router which is within 5 metres at all times. Maybe I am wrong but nonetheless its great being able to have my WIFI switched on at all times without loosing battery power quicker :)

Is this the case with anyone else?

Maybe some people could try this for a day to see if it improves your battery, and if it does so for you as it does for me, then there is another option to improve your battery life :D

on my X10i the battery most definitely drains much quicker.

when I check Battery Use in the About Phone menu, it says wifi is using 47% of the battery.

I always leave blue tooth on as it only uses 2% of the battery.

Hmm well after doing a google search, I found someone else mentioning the fact that their battery was lasting longer with WIFI on too, so maybe it is just some phones? I don't know, but i'm getting my replacement this morning due to my x10 not charging correctly, so I hope it still uses less battery with WIFI :D

will the wifi when im at home automatically take over from my 3g?

the 3g logo is still there at the top even though i clicked wifi on

It does for me so I don't know of any reason why it wouldn't for you :)

Yeah..where's "always on"?

Just turn your WIFI on and its 'Always on' :D

I have GPS, 3G, Wifi and BT always on. Wifi will be disconnected when the screen if off though and it sometimes has issues re-connecting.

Hmm strange, I havn't notice mine go off when screen is powered off, maybe it does, i'm not sure, but It never has problems re-connecting

Might be because your 3g signal is a bit weak & it's forever searching to keep it? Try going gsm only. I have a terrible data signal at my place & WiFi definitely extends battery life. At my GF's there is a good Edge connection & with WiFi off battery lasts longer still.
Was away at the weekend & didn't want to be disturbed so switched data off. Switched back on to check emails a couple of times, looked at a few web pages, checked a couple of forums & made a couple of calls. After 48 hours battery down to 72%. Shocked to say the least!

To be honest I get a fantastic 3G signal in my area, always got a full 3G signal

It is in Settings>Wireless Control>WiFi Settings>Menu>Advanced>WI-FI Sleep Policy.

You can keep it on by checking "Never" in the above settings.

My usage pattern.

Interestingly, no matter how much I lower my brightness, the screen always uses the most.

Wow. Are you connected/using all the time? I'm on hour 41 off the charger, (48% left). Wifi has used 3% of my battery life. I'm sure that usage goes up with a lot of surfing.

not surfing. hardly using the phone at all, but I do get my email updated as well as facebook and twitter.

I do have a lot of wifi settings stored in the phone from different locations and I have just deleted them all except one. Maybe its because the phone keeps looking for all the different locations - will report back once I find if that is the cause.

its still using quite a bit of battery as you can see from the picture. - this after hardly any use of of the phone. phone was charged to 100% then left overnight and used only to check battery and one phone call.

What do you have your display set on to have such low readings? The display on mine always has the highrst number.
