Hi All,
I have had the Galaxy S i9000 for about a month or so now and I really like it. I am a long time SE PDA user, so had to adapt a lot to use Android, but having done the grunt... I love it.

I seem to have bought (UK Orange Contract) one of the devices that does not allow booting into alternate modes (ie hold down Power + Home + Vol +/- keys to access alternate modes).

I understand this has affected a significant number of others from what I have read on this and other forums.

Here is my problem / question.

The SGS is VERY laggy. I need to speed it up... it is becoming unusable!!

(I assume the lagginess is due unnecessary bloatware which could be removed by Rooting the phone.)

  1. Is it possible to speed the phone up?

(What can I do which DOES NOT require access to the alternate menus - please point me in the direction of a post if I have missed it :))
  2. Will FroYo fix the lag issues?
(So should I sit and wait like everyone else!)
  3. If neither of the above will work?! what can I do to manage the situation better? (or should I sell the SGS!!)
Sorry if these have been answered already, but I did look first... and I am good at thanking helpful posters

Thanks in advance for any help...

could you give me some info on this will it 'do' anything to my phone is it just a case of installing and its done?

or more complete root kind of thing?
It will move all your data to an linux filesystem from the samsung filesystem it's currently on. The samsung filesystem had no buffering, ext2 (the linux filesystem) does.

All it does its root your phone and create this new filesystem

So does lagfix fix the lag?

It absolutely does.

I've been using OCLF V2.0 now for a week, It's working fantastically.

BTW, For those of you having troubles with the recovery mode, it's different in different countries. Some are hold vol up, down and power, some are vol down, home and power and some are vol up, home and power.

this is not exactly correct. all Galaxy s I9000 that are capable of 3 button recovery use the same buttons: Vol Up, Home and Power. i think you may be referring to the captivate, vibrant or fascinate. but they are different models and have there own section in this forum
