What Are Your Three Favorite Features Or Functions Of Your Captivate?

Overall I'm very happy with my Captivate.

1) First is the 4.0" Super AMOLED display.
Not only do I enjoy the brilliance of this display, with its great color balance, good contrast and wide range of brightness adjustment. But I've also found through daily use of my iPhone 4 with its 3.5" retina display and my Droid X with its 4.3" TFT display, that the 4.0" size is the sweet spot. This size allows the phones overall size to be less that that of the Droid X, and not much larger than the iPhone 4.

2) Next is Swype
While not unique to the Captivate variant of the Galaxy S series, Swype has changed my outlook on touchscreen keyboards completely. Fun, accurate, and exceptionally fast, its an amazing advancement which has redefined text input. Coming from years on a BlackBerry with its stellar physical keyboard, I never expected a touchscreen could possibly replace it. Now after just two months, I do indeed enjoy this more.

3) Design, Materials, Build Quality
The only plastic is the inner chassis. With a very well designed latch mechanism, the metal battery door and end pieces fit with precision. This phone is free of any creaks or other annoying noises when gripping it. On the front side, its largely dominated by the beautiful gorilla glass display. Unlike an iphone where large sections of the top quarter and bottom quarter are blanked out thereby leaving only enough room for its small 3.5" display. The shape of the back sides is nicely rounded making this model very easy and comfortable to hold.

At the end of the day, I have an entirely new and positive opinion of Samsung phones, and I'm very glad I chose the Captivate.

I was extremely worried about moving from something that had a tactile full keyboard to a pure touchscreen. Leaving my Samsung Impression for this was a jump for me (not like the Impression was an amazing phone, but the keyboard was nice). I have larger fingers (6'6" here. Fun to be tall, but sucks for any adhesion to normal-world sizes) and was worried that even on landscape, the on-screen keyboard would, well, suck. Swype made that fear null and void. I can swype in portrait mode far quicker than I can in landscape, and it is about 97% accurate.

My second favorite thing would have to been the internal build of the phone and how well it works with the Android OS. Granted, I have done the lagfix, but still. Everything seems so seamless and well thought-out.

Lastly would be the gorilla glass. Granted, I've not had to test it's limits, after leaving something with a resistive-touch screen vs. a capacitive screen, I can say this is definitely superior.

Everything except GPS... The other item I'm not too happy with is with USB support for cars, can't get it to work. However, IPhone and IPod from friends/family all work without a glitch.

Based on your other posts, and your issues with the Captivate it seems like the simpler iPhone is the one for you.

Number 4. is something that I have noticed as well.

What's particularly encouraging, is how much they (Samsung) have improved their phone performance. I've had several different models in the past, each and every one had mediocre call quality at best. Some echo, rather tinny and certainly not that great.

Now ironically, it's one of the best of the smartphones I have. Nothing like good call quality!

2. Multiple same-purpose apps. I listen to a lot of audio books and music as well. Unfortunately my iphone 3g(and all Ipods from what I hear) was just terrible at keeping place in my books when I switch to music, or it would just lose place randomly for no reason. Its nice that I can keep mixzing for music and astroplayer for audiobook play and be perfectly happy.
3. Cloud contacts for free. I love not needing to pay for mobile me to keep my contacts synced up remotely.

I like a lot of what has been mentioned, so I decided to do three that may not have been:

1. VPN support standard. I run a VPN at home and I love that I can access my entire home network securely.

2. 16 GB onboard memory, plus my 8 GB microSD card! I thought I would buy a 32 GB microSD, but right now I wouldn't even use it.

3. Bluetooth. I know almost every phone on the market has Bluetooth, but not all of them do it well. Most people have 1 or 2 Bluetooth devices they connect to, I have 5 (home phone, my car stereo, my wife's car stereo, my computer, my work laptop). I was afraid to go away from Nokia because they were so good at Bluetooth and my wife had horrible experiences with the Bluetooth on her Motorola RAZR, LG Shine, and Samsung Eternity. Happily, Samsung got Bluetooth right with the Captivate!

My Favorite features of the Captivate:

1. The screen resolution along with sensitive touch screen.

2. Excellent WiFi.

3. Basically an open system that allows mods to a certain extent.

3++ but then there is the bluetooth, memory, camera, ease of control.

For me:

1. Android - Captivate was the ship I jumped to when I abandoned iPhone. I never cared for it to begin with, but in time I came to loath it, and Apple. This one heading covers what are probably my other top 3 likes, freedom and customization, so I'll move on to 4.

4. The lock screen - Strangely enough. Being able to slide it in any direction has come in ridiculously convenient. Such a silly little thing, but I love it.

5. Replaceable battery - Again, this is here because my only experience with smart phones are iPhone and Captivate.

Really, almost everything I love about this phone falls under that 'Android' category. Being able to do just about anything I want with MY phone is just fantastic. There is also a plethora of awesome apps that I enjoy, thanks to the android community. The Captivates camera is also a vast improvement over my old 3G iPhones, and the same goes for the massive AMOLED screen.

My friend owns an iphone4, and even he likes my screen. I've never really heard anyone say this, but he says that he feels that his iphone4's screen is "notably distanced" behind the immediate glass on teh surface, while the captivate's screen seem closer. *shrugs* I'm just glad it makes some iphone users jealous

2. volume rocker! It's so easily accessible. My old phone, a Nokia E63, did not have a volume rocker. I have no idea why it didn't, but this is a plus for me.

3. This one's a 2-in-1. I like the 3.5 mm jack, along with where it's placed.

4. Okay you didn't ask for 4, but I'm going to go beyond. Afterall, I feel like some people here need some reasons not to divorce their phone .
I like that the usb port is on top of the phone. It stays clear out of the way of usage. I've had phones that I dreaded usage while plugged in because I'd have to hold it in an awkward way. The only bad thing about the usb port, is, well, it kinda disconnects easily... but I don't think that's ever been a problem. At least for me.

5. Battery life. 2 days: I text here and there, made a few short phone calls... ended up at 50% battery life. I really can't complain.

6. Highly customizable. Although I'm not on any custom rom at the moment, since my battery life seemed to be significantly lower on other roms (or I could've been doing something wrong), I've got so many options. I love to customize my phone. It keeps things fresh, and I think we all can use a little bit of fresh air. Some of you should really appreciate the work that we see over at xda. They're presenting us with so many options.

6. Swype. It's a love-hate relationship. I used to own a tmobile sidekick, and I fell in love with the physical qwerty and I didn't think it would be possible to move on. I still miss it, but this is the only feature that can keep me sane on a touch screen phone. It messes up sometimes, but it's somewhat fun to use and it makes up for it. Over at the dining hall (I'm still an undergrad in college), I notice people always staring at my phone when I'm using swype. They must think it's the coolest form of text input ever and they wish they had it.

Just wanted to pitch in some final words, even though I gave you more than you wanted. The grass on the other side always looks greener, but that's just a matter of freshness. I was stuck with tmobile for a long time, and they didn't release anything good. I thought any other carrier would be better. Following my brother to AT&T cuz he wanted an iphone so badly, I realized that I miss all the qwerty phones that tmobile has to offer. I really want a G2 now. There is no perfect phone out there (or a perfect carrier, for that matter). You make one choice, you experience it's ups and downs.
