Accessories better way to apply screen protector than steamy bathroom?

so i read to apply a screen protector in a steamy bathroom to keep the dust out of the air. unfortunately, i missed this the first time around. once i got the new one in the mail, i went with this, but still got a couple small pieces of dust on the edges...it was so little, i didnt worry about it

couple nights ago, i scratched the shit out of the protector...right in the middle of the screen. since i had one more, decided id switch it out

cleared my bathroom counter, wiped it clean, got everything away from the area i'd be working, got the shower going full hot until it was quite steamy (just like the last time, get it on, and again, i have dust under it. this time its right in the middle...i dont want to pull it up to try to get the one piece out because then the edges wont go back down.

so aside from trying to find someone with a dust/lint free clean room, which i dont think will be possible, is there a better way to apply one of these and not get dust under it?

this is with the steinheil CC, which im fairly satisfied with.

When I worked at Caterpillar; we used dish soap(I think it was Ivory brand; not sure but it came in a white bottle) mixed with water to apply window decals. About a drop of soap in a spray bottle with light spray on the window worked pretty well so you just need a little bit of it.

You can slide it into position until it dries(which should be pretty quick).

I agree with K2e2vin, some sort of dish soap mixed with water. Good luck. They are a PITA.

It sounds like you have the bestskinsever cover.

I got that one, I made a soap mixture and put it in a spray bottle (either buy one or I used an old windex bottle, cleaned it out really well).

Extra hands makes a big difference in this process, so if you can get a friend to help out (if it's convenient), it wouldn't be a bad idea. Otherwise, there's no time limit for putting it on. If you want it perfect, get the screen protector lined up perfectly. Press some of it down, if you see a spot, pull it back up, wipe whatever it was away, and press it down.

I know when I put it on, and had it just right, I held it up to a light to see the glare and ran my finger over the screen, and redid it a few times for a small hair that got it, and a couple dust particles (they looked/felt like small indents in the screen)

I work in a lab and always use the biosafety cabinet to apply screen protectors.

I used a camera dust free lint free cloth then started from one side and slowly laid it down gently squeeging out air bubble as i went. came out perfect.

I didn't do the whole "steamy bathroom" thing, sounded like a huge waste of time. And apparently... it is!

Clean off your table with some windex. Get a clean lint free towel and lay it down to work on. Before putting on the screen protector, clean it off (with a lint free cloth) and then use compressed air to blow off any remaining dust on the screen. Make sure you blow out really good around the edges where stuff gets trapped.

Then just apply it. IF you still manage to get a piece or two of dust, just use one peice of tape to pull up the protector and another peice of tape to remove the dust.

Easy Peasy =)

Didn't do anything of the sort. I applied it in my room in front of the fan and, not one speck of dust! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones? :shrug:

If it makes any difference, I have the Seidio brand.

Ugh. I just applied my ZAGG IS and got a tiny piece of lint under the protector near the top of the screen. Kinda angry. I otherwise it's perfectly line up who with 0 bubbles. -_-

I was unaware of the bathroom trick, though I doubt it would've helped.

Static-cling protectors (in lieu of the adhesive type) are the way to go . . .
I installed my Boxwave screen protector in no time flat & noticed a couple pieces of trapped lint . . . I used a piece of tape to pealed it back slightly (from the corner), slid in a piece of tape to withdraw the spec & laid the protector back down . . .
The whole process took less than 5 minutes, I have corner to corner coverage & it's absolutely perfect . . . literally, 100% flawless!!!!

While that does sound convenient, I have always had good luck with ZAGGs. I have one that I applied to my iPod Classic about 3-4 years ago, and it is to this day, flawless. No reapplying, no scratches, no peeling... nothing.

The lint is SO tiny and only noticeable on a white background. I will see if I can ignore it over the next few weeks-- if I can't, I will take advantage of my lifetime warranty and get a replacement.

Here's how I applied my steinheil CC without getting dust under it.

1- clean the screen
2- cover the screen with 3M blue painters tape, 2" wide.
3- start peeling back the tape from the bottom exposing the optical track pad and up to the touch buttons only.
4- peel back the steinheil CC adhesive backing as much as in step 3, about 3/4".
5- start applying the protector to the phone by aligning the hole and the bottom corners first then with one hand pressing the CC on use the other to peel back the CC backing and blue tape together as you work your way up to the top. Keep the edges line up and you should be spot on.

This worked for me the first time I tried it. Using the painters tape has two advantages that I see 1) the tape protects the areas where you have not apply the protector yet. 2) it picks up any dust that might have landed on the screen after you've cleaned it.

I don't want to install the screen protector at home as it if just too dusty here. So I decided to do the deed at work which is air conditioned with the air being filtered and recirculated. Much more cleaner air than at home. I was able to do the install without much problems. Had a small speck/bubble that that disappeared in time.
