I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting a consistent 500kbps or lower during the day from my phone alone on 3G. I can get up near or to a full 1Mbs. I don't know if it's just my area or what, but my speeds suck between early morning and late night, obviously.

I use the ##778 as well, i also have the wireless tether for root installed, I tried both, but I can't tell a speed difference, I'm not sure if I'm going to get charged for it yet tho bc my bill doesn't print until the 10th.

It shows up like your using your phone to surf the web. Just don't go crazy and start downloading large files or streaming movies and no alarms will go off at VZW.

I hear ya. I need to sew up the holes in my pockets where VZW keeps craming their hands in them constantly. I'm not giving them any more than I have too. I have 5 phone lines and a Wireless Hot Spot MIFI. I've bled all I can bleed. I need a transfusion.

yup same here, its better cause u can actually run the 3g mobile hotspot in the background unlike wireless 3G tether

From an earlier post;

Steps:
1) Dial ##778, SEND
2) EPST dialog comes up. Select 'Edit Mode'. Enter SPC (000000), hit OK.
3) Scroll to down to 'Security', select it. Change 'S.IP DUN User name' to yourvzwnumber@vzw3g.com (from yourvzwnumber@dun.vzw3g.com)
4) Hit back arrow to go back and go/select 'M.IP Default Profile'. Change 'DUN NAI' to yourvzwnumber@vzw3g.com (from yourvzwnumber@dun.vzw3g.com)
5) Hit menu button, and 'Commit Modifications', phone will save changes and reboot.

Basically remove the letters DUN from the line after "your number@

and yes then the 3g mobile hot spot button works fine

Amazingly enough, it worked! I was having difficulty earlier, but now it seems to do what you say. In fact I'm using it right now.

So now I have rooted WIFI tether
3G HOTSPOT
and Wired USB tether


For FREE!
