Root Want to root, but I can't hard boot!

I decided, that it's time to root my phone. I love my intercept, but the factory(unremovable) apps are killing my memory, and I am running out of app space on my phone. My solution, root and get a froyo mod. Then I can put the damn apps on my sd card, and it will run SO much faster (hopefully). There is just one problem. My phone....is NOT cooperating. I have tried EVERY hard boot thing I have been told. (I even tried other samsung hard boot methods). I held the volume down while it powered on, I didn't even let go until my home screen loaded (like 7 minutes later) I tried BOTH volume buttons at the same time while booting, I tried the home soft screen button, I tried holding the x on the keyboard, it just WON'T work.

Anyone have any advice?

I think I need to join you...keep me posted on how things go if you figure it out. I'm scared to root but I agree that the factory stuff is taking up way too much space and froyo is a definite requirement on this phone...i ran out of space the first day! If i wasn't past my 30 days with it, I'd probably return it for an epic. :(

Are there any Froyo mods are there? I haven't seen any mods for the Intercept. Also, what apps can safely be removed? I ran out of space today and couldn't even receive text messages...had to delete a few things.

Also, the LittleKernel Root method works. I believe you hold down the Volume Down + Camera + Power Buttons. Only downside as of now is that the wifi stops working. Hopefully someone will figure out a fix for it soon.

hold down the volume down key and the talk and end key at the same time until you see the boot screen or whatever its called,i have been tryin to root my phone too and the little kernal build does not work,i mean people say that they have done is and it worked but im good at following instructions, ive rooted the motorola cliq and put froyo on the htc hd2 very easily but i could not get the little kernal to work, none of the one click roots work eaither,i have been tryin at this for over a month with little progress. if you keep me informed on new info you find ill do the same. oh and if i was you i wouldnt root until there are official roms for the intercept, tried the moments when i tried rooting with little kernal and it perma bricked my phone.had to get a new one

also theres a app called universal androot that roots your phone,it tells me im already rooted, wich im not but i guess it tells me that because i attempted rooting but it seems do what its supposed to do,couldnt find it in the market, had to download onto the computer and move it to my sd card

What is the "LittleKernel Root" method?
to make it simple and clear, its a non working method. The forum i read on it people were saying that it worked, but there was also even more people sayin it didnt. I wouldnt try it because ive been on every developer website and googled everything thinkable and there are no roms for the intercept yet. I bricked my first intercept trying the little kernal. Now ive read that you cant put any rom on a phone but im starting to get curious so im going to get a spare intercept and tinker around with it because theres something you can download if you brick your phone onto a new sd card and it should unbrick the unbrickable or something.i dont know but if anybody figures out anything let me know because i will do the same.i get on my laptop everyday looking for new info

Yeah, the instructions on the other site really aren't good. I'll try to list how I did it. It worked for me, please don't blame me if it doesn't work on yours.

1. First, download the SWUpgrade program. Here and install the patch

2. Go to C:\Program Files\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary and delete everything in the folder.

3. Download the rooted kernel and put it in C:\Program Files\Samsung Electronics\SWUpgrade\Models\Binary (or your computers equivalent). Don't untar it or anything, just drop the file in.

4. Go to samsung's site and download and install the USB drivers.

5. Load the SWUpgrade program and follow its instructions. It'll have you put the phone into boot mode and a bunch of other things. Just do what they say and it should work for you.

This worked for me. Let me know if it works for you too.

Just as a warning though. As of right now the LittleKernel 2.1 will break your wifi.

how do you get wifi back after that? I really want to root since brd912 loves the phone b/c of it! I'm still freezing up all the time etc...at the very least i'd love to free up all the space the sprint football/nascar crap takes up.
all i can say is to follow one of the methods people have posted on here, but be very careful when removing the stock apps.i deleted something thinkin it was google talk but it was somethin else and now i cannot download any apps from the market,i have to download the apk files online and move them to my sd card wich is really anoying, sprint is gonna replace it (again) lol.oh and get this sprint told me that once they send me the new one,if it screws up then they have a program where when people have to replace their phone 2 or 3 times then they can get the next level up phone,or level down but the rep told me that i could get either the epic or i9? i think thats the name but who knows

Try holding the vol. down button and the talk button and end button.

I hope so. What makes you think this?

Ever since the very beginning of virgin mobiles existence they have been known to lock down their phones beyond reason like the old simple stuff like changing the screen background or phones ring tone without buying one from them for sometimes as much as $2 a piece . In most cases the only problem people have with virgin mobile is their phones now that there is one that can bypass all those lock downs this will make history.

I have the Virgin Mobile Intercept. There are no lock downs I can see, except I'm having a problem others have had getting the Intercept to interface with a PC via USB for file transfers. Other than that, I get full Android functionality. I can copy any mp3 as a ringtone, make any jpeg a background, and download and run any app from the Android Market. $25 an month (plus tax) for unlimited web and text makes this phone a no-brainer for the budget minded.
