Airplane Battery Trick

My friend found this trick somewhere, don't remember where. But the trick makes it so your phone doesn't search for 3G while in standby. It seemed to have worked for me. Won't really know until later on in the night. Right now i'm sitting on 74% after 8 hours. If this is old to you, then don't post about how you knew about this ages ago, its annoying and no one cares. Let me know if it helped improve battery life.

Instructions
1. Put phone into "Airplane Mode"
2. Turn phone off
3. Turn phone back on
4. Take phone out of "Airplane Mode"

Sounds like its similar to disabling always-on internet.

Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Enable always-on mobile data

It also sounds like a bug.

Agreed, why go through all that trouble when you can turn always-on mobile data off? I guarantee that if you turn it off and turn off your 3G, your phone won't search for 3G.

I said that it stops the phone from searching while it's in standby. When the screen is off. When not in use. Not being touched...... You can go ahead and turn your 3G off and have slow downloads and browsing speeds, but i'm not gonna waste my 3G network.

This was a trick for Eris users who had "50% time without a signal" issue when going into battery use and checking cell standby time under "what's been using battery". I had that problem on my old Eris and I think it was more placebo than anything else to do the airplane mode trick. It got rid of the 50%, but really didn't do anything for battery life. My Incredible is saying 1% without signal--so it's obviously not an issue for this phone.
