I noticed alot of people making posts asking the same questions time and time again, so I thought I would make a post for people to list all common problems and how to resolve them :)

I will edit the list below with every common problem, as they are posted :)

Problem List:

Keyboard

Problem: The default Keyboard is too difficult to use!

Resoloved: Download the HTC keyboard from the link below, it is much easier to use than the X10 and default android keyboard! Alternatively, you can choose from a selection of keyboards in the Android Market

You can also customize your own HTC keyboard to your liking here http://www.gimpsta.com/themer/

Battery

Problem: The battery does not last very long!

Resolved: Doing this has worked for with every phone I have owned, just follow these instructions. Wait until your battery has completely drained (so the phone will not turn on). Then charge your phone to 100%. Repeat this process as many times as you want, until you feel like your battery is lasting long enough :) Also, the more often you charge your battery the longer it will last, over time :)

Call Volume

Problem: The call volume is too low, even at highest setting!

Resolved: At the moment there is no setting or app that can further increase the volume, but there is something known as the "Sweet Spot". The sweet spot is a spot on the area of the phone, circled in the image below, that enabled you to hear better. Keep trying different spots of the call speaker to find the sweet spot :)

Please post any other common problems and I will update the list :)

Problem... We on AT&T cannot just download a program onto our phones. If the program is NOT in the Market, we are out of luck, because they have disabled the ability to side load programs. It would seem the only way to over come this to ROOT our phones. Problem there is a lot of people do not know how or are just not comfortable doing it, not to mention it voids our brand new phones warranty. I wish we had it as easy here as you all do there. Basically, using Android on AT&T isn't really Android at all. I say this because on Android, we are suppose to be able to change and mod as we see fit, not the case with AT&T. They are in essence, defeating the Android philosophy single handedly....

Hey Cubz, we already have an X10 Tips thread that is within the sticky at the top of the forum. We can only have one sticky per forum so if you have any suggestions for how King Dong can improve the instructions/tips on that thread they would be very much appreciated. Nothing is set in stone and we are always open to new ideas and suggestions.

I do hear where you are coming from about multiple threads on the same issues tho, the last couple of days have been pretty hot on the ADW and HTC_IME front with a little bit of screen unlocking thrown in for good measure. I have merged a couple of threads that are very similar to try and streamline it a bit. The trouble with merging is that the posts go in date order and that can get a bit confusing on longer threads and also on more complicated issues altho there is common ground the questions are slightly different so I have left the ADW ones alone.

You have been making a really good contribution to the forum for which we thank you and look forward to seeing you 'around'!

You can install a file manager, or have they limited you from this too

Thanks rosered.

But the tips thread is listed under Tips and Tricks in the sticky topic, and I noticed there was Common Problems with nothing listed underneath it.
So I thought I would try and be helpful, and list common problems that people are having, thus saving time and space.

Sorry if I have completely duplicated another topic, I was just trying my bid to help :)

I also tried the bookmark widget but it was way to fiddly, would be more simple if it could display our current bookmarks with a thumbnail

Hi there, don't apologise at all, nothing to be sorry for. I hope I didn't sound a bit 'off' with the earlier post. That was so not my intention, but sometimes tone is in the ear of the beholder. So I am sorry if I sounded that way:eek:

I can put a link to this thread in the sticky but just didn't want to put people off by duplicating too much info. It might be useful if you don't mind doing it, producing a step by step idiot proof guide to downloading the HTC_IME keyboard as a single thread. There are instructions on the XDA site but there is soooo much info on there that it gets a bit bamboozling.

We also need to be careful what info is included, such as advice about task killers is contentious so therefore whilst its good to discuss in the open forum I'm not sure it should be in the 'recommended to everyone' category. You either fall in to the kill camp or leave android to it and both would argue their way is the best.

The lock screen thing is good, but again could be added to the existing tips thread.

I love that you want to be involved, there is so much to learn when you get a new phone so if we can simplify it in any way its got to help.

OK I appreciate your opinion, and I was thinking of making a separate topic of a step by step guide of how to install the HTC keyboard, alot of people cannot follow the instructions on other websites, so I will do this later on and make it as easy as I possibly can, and i will add step by step screenshots too :)

I agree but I still kept it, and i'm currently using the smaller widget, as much as a nightmare it is, it still comes in use for me to get to my most visited websites quicker :) its a pitty they couldn't make it much more simple, by being able to use our current bookmarks

That would be great, thank you. I'll keep an eye out and post a link to it when its done.

Put a little aside in there for our AT&T friends in America, they can't side load apps cos of AT&T restrictions which is what Gunny was saying further up the thread. You can if you are rooted as Charlyee is AT&T and has now got the keyboard.... but that opens up a whole other can of worms.

OK Thanks :)

Some carriers are very snide nowadays, like T-Mobile removing the silence of the camera (not like I need it for the reason most other people do ) but for instance, when I'm on public transport with my girlfriend, and I'm taking a picture of her, as soon as it makes the shutter sound, everyone looks at me as if i'm taking pictures of them :D

I'm the type of person who loves taking photos of almost everything, such as the sunset (I love photography :)) and I would really like the option of silencing the shutter sound.

I haven't taken many photos just yet, as I've only had the Xperia for just over a week, but I am going to Pontins in Prestatyn on Monday, so I will be taking alot of photographs then :D

EDIT: Sorry I went a bit off topic then  But anyway, I have updated the original post at the top, I hope that's OK for now, until I have made the topic explaining how to install the HTC keyboard, then I will update it again :)

Perfect.

Hope the weather clears up a bit for you and your trip to Prestatyn. Is this a last hurrah before the baby comes along? We did that just before my baby was born... 15 years ago now. Make the most of it while you can.

Did you read 6000's suggestion of cotton wool and a sticking plaster to reduce the sound, you could always try that:eek::D

Yes, we're gutted about the weather but we're hoping it clears up while we're there. And yes, I thought i'd treat my girlfriend to a short week away before the baby is born :) got less then 2 months to go now  Very nervous

I seen 6000's suggestion, found it hilarious, but I don't like the idea of my Xperia looking like its had a trip to A&E :D

I cannot get any apps to work that do not originate from the market. If I put an .APK file on the phone, it will usually refuse to allow it and if it does by some small fluke, it surly will not install. AT&T has it locked up tight! I could root and do it, but at the present time, I just don't feel comfortable rooting.. I did however buy a new keyboard, it is the "Smart Keyboard Pro", which I really enjoy...

Are those gauges face functional? As much as they look cool, I bet they are eating up your resources big time... Or are they not, and if not, how are you evading the strain?

Have you tried the Sideload Wonder Machine?

I am unsure if it works as I don't really need it, but it was designed for people with Android Phones that do not allow them to sideload apps

You do not need to root your phone, all you have to do is install the software to your computer, enable USB Debugging, and make sure the USB is on 'charge only'

Then in the software, choose the .apk file that you want to install your file, then the software will install the app to your phone via the USB cable.

Like I said, I do not know if this works, but I've heard some positive things about it :) Hope I helped

Find it much easier and quicker just to create Shortcuts on the homescreen - or drop them into a folder to access from there

requires short(ish) bookmark names but far more functional than the widget IMO anyway
