I am using Launcher Pro and went to the other lauchers via home switcher and noticed there were icons up and running. I removed ADW and was wondering if I can remove the others without upsetting things. If so what files should I be looking for in File Manager. I really don't want to have any other launchers runnning in the background and using my battery.

Thanks

I don't understand how 7 people could rate this ROM as "average," 3 said it's not ready for primetime, and 5 people said it is not even worth using?

I think that for the most part, people on this forum care about the enduser first and foremost. You bought your phone, you like to customize it, and you like to maximize its performance. This ROM has been incredible since UDx3.5.0, and yet some say it's just average?

I just don't get it. Oh well, to each his/her own, I suppose. I haven't changed from UD since 3.5, and I really don't see any need to. Unless something new comes along that just totally blows everything away, but I think we're approaching the "limit" for the phone.

Nevertheless, bring on UDx 9!

A lot of this boils down to the popularity of this ROM. I can understand certain people having issues, but very public people who are friends...and confidants of the people who code other less popular ROM's (no names) get jealous and try to stick up for said less popular ROM's.

Either way, there is no denying it. UD is the best freaking ROM I've ever used.

hmm, i wonder if black droid is rebuilding ud9 with android 2.2.1...

Blackdroid was sick and is now mourning over the loss of a close family member. He plans to release the now-ready UD9 when he is able to provide support.

I thought 2.2.1 just closed rooting exploits. Is there something new out there I don't know about?

My theory on 2.2.1 is that it is nothing big enough to matter much. Dev's typically just add a number to the end of a version to indicate that the version has changed. If it was a big fix or anything, it would have been named 2.3 or 2.4...

That's just my theory.

Not to mention that the OTA update is very small... less than 4mb... Wouldn't surprise me if the only change is patching the vulnerability that allows root...

It fixes some WiFi issues for the Nexus One but I don't know if it improves WiFi on any other device.

Oh and it supposedly improves pinch functions but I have only read one person reporting that.

So I was using gmail today and noticed something very odd going on with the picture icon for the sender/receiver. Not exactly sure how to explain this so I will do my best.

Whenever I reply to a message it is showing a picture of one of my contacts and not myself. I went into my gmail settings on my desktop and it is showing my picture and if I send an original email it shows my picture but whenever I reply to a message it shows the picture of my contact and not myself. If I press the picture it brings up a contact icon or gmail contact, if I press the contact info it brings up my contact info with my picture and when it goes back to the original message my picture is showing but if I reply again to the message it shows the other picture.

Is there a setting I am missing or is this some strange bug that I may have discovered?

Okay I tried everything I could think of and had no success in trying to fix this issue. So I went extreme. I formatted my SD card and wiped every possible thing I could on my phone 3x and reloaded the rom *fresh*and the issue persists so I believe that the issue lies within gmail but I have no clue. Its not the worst thing ever but it annoys me and my ocd tendencies. :)

If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them.

It's crap like this that I resent.. UD8 was absolutely horrible on my phone. I don't give a rats ass about any developer in particular. Neither do I have the time nor the patience to troll forums and rah-rah for a developer. If the ROM works to my liking, I'll give it praise to anyone who asks. For the longest time it was BB - but like most people here, I'm an equal opportunity flasher.

At the end of the day, the primary measure of how good a ROM works is how well it works on my phone. Speed and stablity above all - customizations don't really mean much to me and UD8 wasn't a ROM that played nice with my Droid.

Now this isn't necessarily an indictment on anyone in particular, but to the UD fanboys, stop assuming that people who are having issues with this ROM are just out to bash it. It just isn't that serious here on the internets..

Has anyone noticed this bug with UD8? There is a thread over on droidforums [dot] net about it, but it seems that it's not going anywhere. Here is the link so you can read what the OP has said: activation after install - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum. I have responded with this same screen shot and my user name is the same.

When calling *228, the dial number pad is not visible and the spaces where the number would normally be are not responsive to touch.

If anyone has any ideas, let me know please. Also, I am running UD8 with Chevy's 1.1Ghz kernel and 928Droid's Black Glass theme.

I don't have any problems with the dial number pad when making any other call.

I just flashed this ROM and tried activating when I saw your post. I didn't have any trouble.

I'm totally there with you. I was a huge BB fan back when it was Bugless Beauty (anyone remember that ). However, I started having problems with his ROMs and moved onto CM when it came out and then JRummy's remixes and they all worked great and better than BB ever did. I never used a BD ROM until this one and after trying CM6, LFY, BB0.5, Miui etc, UD8 is really the best for my phone. I'll never tell someone that this is the BEST ROM out there, but I will always say it's the best for MY phone. I'm all for the competitive spirit though.

YES! I had mentioned the exact same issue way back on page 3 of this thread. What seems to induce it is going into the user interface settings and attempting to install a different dialer (in my case I tried to install the stock dialer).

Upon doing that, I got a force close and the dialer was still the one included with the ROM. No big deal I thought, I can live with that. Then I eventually noticed that when dialing *228 the keypad no longer appears. You CAN still complete an activation by using the buttons on the hardware keyboard.

I fixed the issue by reflashing the ROM. The disappearing keypad issue only rears its head after you try to install a different dialer from the UD settings menu. I tried several different things including creating a flashable zip to install the stock dialer, and no matter what I tried the "stock" UD8 dialer would override my attempts to get rid of it.

Hope this helps.

Good. I posted this issue over on the blackdroidmod.com forums and it was never addressed, though many people chimed in to say they had the same problem. I did find a thread where blackdroid himself addressed it but he said (paraphrasing) "after the force close you should be fine and the dialer you want should be installed". Not the case.

When UD9 comes out, create a backup before trying to install a different dialer through the settings menu in case this issue is still unresolved.
