Movies on your X ?

My suggested settings (use whatever program you like, I use handbrake)

Format: MP4 wrapper, H.264
Resolution 854 wide, keep aspect ratio (i.e. let the software pick the height based on the original video)
Video bitrate: 1000
Audio bitrate: 128

I think using these general settings, you'll get something that will look pretty good and not have too big a file.

I second lexluthor...I use Handbrake to resize much larger files to something more suitable for the Dx. It works great.

Nevermind, found it on the web for PC (took me 30 seconds to put that together, LOL!). $50 but they have a 20% discount offer till 10/3 right now.

A customer just recommended rock player, the audio is way off, is there a better one available? Handbrake better?

how do you get handbrake to go to 854 for the width? all the time it only choses and stays at 720. any help?

This is the only thing I miss about the fascinate. I can drag and drop nearly any video file type and it was supported. That WILL be missed but isn't a deal breaker

If you download Rockplayer from the market, you'll be able to play pretty much anything (i.e. xvid) with that.

RockPlayer or ArcMedia will play pretty much any format. When one doesn't work as well, I use the other.

I use DVD Catalyst. It has presets...I just choose "Droid" and it works very well. The developer is very involved, and incredibly fast response to my emails, as well as being very in depth.

And, it's only $9.95! It works very, very well!

I use DVD in Hand - it costs $5.95 and converts DVD or computer video to many different formats including mp4. It works great, and support has been good - I emailed them a couple of questions and heard back the same day. It's in the link below:

I found HandBrake to be pretty easy to use and the price is right. It's done a perfect job on every movie I've converted so far. I set the output to mp4.

In Windows Media mode I'm always prompted to convert files if they're no supported. It's about the same as every type of media working.

Is your source file only 720 (such as a rip from a DVD)? If your source file is has a resolution of 854 or better, then you should be able to select 854.

yeah my bought movies are 720 x XXX as the source so that would explained it thanks

I've been using ArcMedia - it works OK except sometimes the audio and video are out of sync for a second.

I usually rip AVI files from DVDs I have or have borrowed from friends. I DLNA'd RUSH - Beyond the Lighted Stage to my DX yesterday and it looked pretty good (It wasn't an eye-strain to view it on the 4.3 screen). I'm also going to try the last episode of Battelstar Galactica season 4 just to see how the Special FX look on the Droid X...

So far I am pretty impressed with the video viewing aspects of this "phone"!

Nice, trying it right now! Seems way easier and faster than Handbrake, that one takes forever to convert a ripped .VOB file. Now I'll just have to upload a video from each and see which one works better.
