Root ROM News From XDA

MIUI Rom for Fascinate? - xda-developers

It appears things are moving along wrt to the MIUI ROM. ;)

Even better news (and Frisco, you should know this dev from the Eris days)...Punk.Kaos has confirmed he has a KaosFroyo ROM in the works for the Fascinate!!!!!! He had a hardware issue (not related to the ROM) and just waiting on a replacement dev device.

I would so laugh my arse off if XDA got a Froyo ROM out before Samsung does

Kaos will get it done. Whether he beats Samsung to the punch is different, we'll have 2.2 on our phones via XDA before Verizon Wireless gets around to approving it for OTA, thats for sure.

So you switched huh? I am really considering the move also.

I did, a buddy of mine had an upgrade and he wanted a DX, but at the time they were still on back order, so I told him if he got a Fascinate that I would trade him straight up. So far I'm really liking it, the screen is absolutely amazing, I can not get over how great it looks compared to the DX and it is very quick, none of that lag(lock screen) that you had to deal with. Most importantly, soon enough we will have custom ROMs, true custom ROMs with kernels, which was my main reason for making the switch.

The drawbacks, for some(from the DX) are camera is not as good, not as much internal storage, smaller screen(I almost like the 4" better) and build quality does not feel quite as solid.

All in all, I would recommend the Fascinate, it is a great device, one of the best that I've used and I've had every Android phone on VZW's lineup. It does have its bugs, but nothing that really effects the usability. Also, knowing all the help and general knowledge that you provided to the DX users, you would be a great addition to the us Fascinate users, we would be lucky to have you!

how has the lack of a notification light affected you?
The thing is I don't want to leave the X and then the bootloader gets unlocked...
I am sooooo torn right now:(

And also, do you know if cyanogenmod will be supporting the fascinate?
yes kush stated last week on his twitter that there going to work on the galaxy s phones once froyo comes out for the captivate..

so now I am strongly considering it
the only 2 things that bother me like I said, is the lack of a notification light, and the build quality. I could care less about any of the software cause it will be out the door soon:D...if I get it.

Honestly, the build quality is fine. It's lightweight and has a plastic back. Some people seem to think that means that its shoddily put together. The back stay on great and when something is this big, you want it to be as light as possible.

yeah the only thing stopping me from getting it now is waiting one more week to see if any progress is made on the bootloader, then I am getting the fascinate

The lack of notification light is kind of annoying, but not a deal breaker. There is one app out there called "no led" and it works by flashing a light on the actual screen, which you would thing would waste a lot of battery, but I really haven't noticed much of a difference in battery life since I started using it.

yeah I am actually getting pretty excited about getting the fascinate, just hope the dx forums aren't too sad/angry at me...
