CNN fires Rick Sanchez. Is there a double standard when it comes to Jews?

So Rick Sanchez gets fired for using the word "bigot" when referring to John Stewart. The conversation also revolved around Jews at certain points. BTW the conversation was on satellite radio, not on CNN.
Here is an updated youtube clip, seems like this may be the entire conversation. I still do not see why Sanchez was fired.
YouTube - Rick Sanchez Fired ? Rick Sanchez Calls Jon Stewart a 'Bigot,' Says CNN "Run by Jews"

Personally I don't see any reason for firing him at all. Double standard?

I hear comments about Christians on TV all the time, about Muslims, about Catholics being child molesters. Joy Behar on CNN's sister network HLN calls Catholic Priests Child molesters almost on a weekly basis. Yet if you start a conversation about a Jew it can get you fired. Double standard?

CNN/Fox/ other cable news programs talk about Blacks, Asians, Middle Easterners, and Hispanics all the time. Again conversation not shining light upon Jewish people gets you fired. By the way I use the term Jew in the context of religion, culture, and background. There is a strong Jewish community here in LA, and they do not limit the word "Jew" to defining only their religion, being a Jew is much more than that, many Jews use the word in contexts beyond religion. So please, someone don't tell me "Jewish is a religion."

I think there is a double standard, seems like Jews are always off limits.

What do you guys think? Double standard?

Glen Beck Can Call the leader of our country a racist, and keep his job? While Sanchez calls Stewart a bigot, and says CNN is owned by Jews and you lose your job? WTF He says it at 2:00

Are we forgetting that at the end of the day Jon Stewart is a comedian. He makes a living making fun of other people. Of course he is going to have a bias and a double standard. HE IS A COMEDIAN. He is going to have a certain way of looking at things just to make them funny. And he is not going to make jokes about certain things because he doesn't want to for whatever reason. He is not a journalist. I find it disturbing that Jon Stewart and his show are the main sources that people turn to to get news, according to the disaster that is Time Magazine. A comedy show written by a bunch of comedians, its on Comedy Central for a reason.
Just like Colbert going in front of Congress to talk about immigrants rights or whatever and turning it into a stand up routine. Then Pelosi coming out and saying it was necessary to bring him infront of Congress to speak. I didn't read much on this just because it pissed me off so much.

Anyway, I'm glad to Sanchez go. Everytime I hear him talk I was astounded at how much of an idiot he was. And I guess I see that double standard the OP was talking about. I am Catholic and I ams getting tired of hearing about how all Catholic Priests are child molesters everytime I watch TV. Just guess it shows the sorry state our media and society is in these days.

You claim that Sanchez simply brought up the subject of Jews and was fired for it. I've read a number of different accounts of this and Sanchez seems to have said a whole lot more than that. And he brought his own employers into the rant by claiming that the network was run by Jews which was a really, really dumb mistake on his part.

Incredible x 4 is correct! Jon Stewart is a comedian! He made a funny comment about Sanchez and Twitter that Sanchez over-reacted to. Send a Twit a Tweet... OMG! How horrible a thing for Stewart to say! So how did alluding to Sanchez as a Twit give him, a so-called journalist, the mandate to bring up Stewart's religious heritage?

Bottom line here is that Sanchez embarassed CNN with his over-reaction to Stewarts shot. And maybe, just maybe, CNN had other issues on the table already with Sanchez. By playing the race card, Sanchez pushed himself across that invisible line. And since this controversy has a direct effect on CNN, they decided to distance themselves from Sanchez. And that's just what they did...

So what if Stewart is a comedian, his talk show is not a comedy show.

Just because someone is a comedian they have a right to say anything they want? I hate when comedians say this.

Comedians say down right racist things all the time, they say controversal stuff, they talk about rape being funny, they think murder is hilarious, then they turn around and say "hey leave me alone, I'm a comedian, it's my job, it's all apart of the art of comedy."

FROM THIS POINT ON, I'm a comedian too, so anytime I insult any of you people, I'm just doing it in the art of comedy.

Mods...please don't warn me, I'm a comedian after all.

Kewl... let us know as soon as you get a show on COMEDY CENTRAL or in a comedy club and we'll happy take nothing you say on stage seriously. :D

Till then you're just as liable for your words or actions as anybody else...

There is a comedy club in LA, it's open to any comedian, famous or not, so I guess I'll give a comedy routine tonight, so as of 8pm tonight, I'm officially a comedian. Gosh I can't wait to insult all of you after 8pm, it's great being a comedian!

Off stage you still get to follow the same code of conduct expected over all of us.

Just to clarify Stewart talk show is not a comedy stage, nor is it a comedy show.

So by your argument, Stewart was NOT a comedian when he made the comments, since he wasn't on stage.

I don't see how you think it's not a comedy show. The one goal of his show is to make people laugh. If he does that by pointing out stupid stuff that goes on in the government/world, so be it.

Faux News targets the left 24-7.

Fox News is, to me, a bit of a barometer as to the ways conservatives view the various goings on in the world. I often cringe when I see how they've presented some things, but again, this is the way some people think; seeing them perform in their very own news network can be quite the eye opener as to their mindset, at times.

It becomes shameful when we look back and realize they were actually on a campaign, a vendetta of sorts, to sway public opinion about this or that issue, such as stem cell research in general and public funding of stem cell research in particular, as one example of a constant stream them over the course of time.

Here is an updated clip. More of the conversation. I still do not see why Sanchez was fired. Big deal he said Jews own many of the channels. Thats like getting fired for saying a black woman owns Harpo Studios. He was stating fact. Sounds like some angry Jewish execs just wanted him gone.

... or someone is looking to make those same Jewish exec's the scapegoat over the termination of a "journalist" with anger issues...

While I suspect you and Mr. Sanchez may not necessarily agree, I think he needs to enroll in anger management counseling... and soon!
