Root Tether attempt gone wrong!

Alrighty, so i bought the LG Ally yesterday, my roommate has the same phone, and he has his tethered to his mac, i want to do the same thing with my PC (windows 7) i followed all the normal steps that i found online, but my computer WONT recognize my phone anymore. I think it did once, but now whenever i connect my Ally to my computer i get the little ring telling me i plugged something in, but thats it. no notifications or anything. I go into device manager and under "other devices" its listed as "LG mobile USB modem" And when i try to update the driver i get "windows could not find driver software for your device"
Any help?

Why not just use Barnacle?

A lot of people including myself have issues with barnacle. Personally I've found that barnacle often disconnects and is inconsistent.
