OK, so I have an extra battery and the charger that charges battery and device at same time. While battery is charging that leaves me without a cable to sync to computer or use with USB car lighter plug. So I guess I need to buy a couple of extra cables.
Would appreciate your advice on best place to buy the extra cables. I did not see them on Verizon accessory site.

Just ordered 2 10' charge cables for under $10 shipped from MonoPrice, pretty dang good deal! I dont have an outlet beside my bed so I have to leave the phone over on the computer desk, now I can place it on the headboard and hit snooze once or twice! Yea! Thanks for the tip!
Now thats a long cord. I was wondering why you needed so much length and as I read and re-clicked on monoprice now Im wondering why you didnt get the 15footer. I have 2 wall chargers already but they are the shorties. A 10ft or even 15ft would let me lay in bed and be powered up and I do have a outlet right next to my bed but as is my cord length requires me to be only on one side. For $4 shipped I might just get one

I had to shave off a little of the plastic on the 6ft Monoprice USB cables. The connector is a little too big to fit into the recessed opening. The connector would pop out if I moved the phone around while it was connected by the cable. I used a Xacto knife to trim the front of the micro usb connector (side with the letter B on it.) I'd like to know if anyone has a source of cheap cables that don't require this trim.

Well you wont be monoprice's price. FWIW the trio I got from amazon all fit in [no trimming needed]. But it sounds like you just want the usb cable and not the charger per se

What I did last night was plugged in the phone before bed up in my bedroom and pulled the phone as close to the bed as I could and just left it on the floor. I had to wake up at 0400 and crawl halfway out of bed and rech the phone, and in my dreary and unhappy state I had to try about 6 times to hit snooz, and by the time I got my top half back into bed I was up. So I laid there waiting for the snooze alarm to go off again and then I just got up for real.

I like to snooze 3 times (15 min) before I honestly face myself in the bathroom mirror. Dealing with the shock of seeing what is in the mirror while not properly prepared can be startling! Plus my 4 yr old came in ans stood on the Fascinate last night at about 11 to announce that he had poop...LOL.... why he needed to tell me, I have no idea! So I did what any man would do, I elbowed my wife and told her that the baby wants to talk to her :)

Just to let ya all know, the cables from MonoPrice do not have the real thin and low profile black plastic around the micro USB end that plugs into the phone. What this does is prevents the detents from being reached and because of this the cable comes out of the phone very easily. If you look at the OEM charge cable, it has a very unique shape to the plastic that allows the metel end to fully seat into the phone and allows the detents to secure the cable in with some possative retention.

I will try to file/dremel the plastic back a bit to see if I can get the detents to grab, but I will not mess with this for a couple weeks as I am working 7 nights a week, 13 hours per night right now... I sleep when I'm not here! This insanity ends Oct 27th, so after that I will have more time to tinker.

Report back when things settle down. Hopefully you're getting your OT

I get straight time OT after I give 5 free hours. Something about being a "professional" and being titled "management" even though I am a field tech and have a manager that dictates my life.... There is no one under me for me to manage! But still, I double my pay with the amount of hours I'm working, so it will help make Xmas for the rug rats! I am a Non Destructive Testing tech at a steam electric plant, really boring and repetative work. Not too much fun to be had, just grind away at a never ending list of examinations. I'm working on my backlog of reports tonight... I hate paperwork!

SAPS, I could not sleep today for crap. So... I spent about 3 min and fixed the cable issue with the 10' Micro USB cables from MonoPrice.com.

It was quick and simple, might take others longer to widdle with a razor or use a file of some sort... I used a bench grinder and a delicate touch.

Before modifying:

In process grinding, this take minimal pressure and effort!

Work complete, about 60 seconds total time with grinder turned on:

Now I get full detent enguagement. I can hang the phone from the cable and it stays on the cable securely. Just like the OEM cable, it takes a slight bit of pressure to release the detents. Now I can plug it in and not worry about if it is making a connection to charge or not. Color me HAPPY!

The cables are dirt cheap as is shipping, and the fact that you need to take a moment or two to file them back a bit is not a big deal to me, I don't typically show off my charging cable to others, it is a background item that I really don't care at all about the looks of a cable. It works or it doesnt work.... For under $8 I got 2 of the 10 foot cables shipped to me, I can handle 2 minutes of grinding to make that deal solid!

I really wanted to show the pictures so that anyone else that contemplates ordering them will realize that there is a simple and easy fix to make the universal cable work just fine and not have multiple posts about how the cable sucks and will not lock into the port properly.

Be carefull with these cheap cables from amazon and ebay.

They will charge fine from a computer but from the wall socket they take twice the time to charge because of the way the cable is designed.

Some say the cheap cables have higher resistance then the quality cables.

Check out this thread for getting the right cable:
