xScope, a multitouch pinch zoom browser

...

I do feel xscope is a quick browser; however it does hang at time. I believe you mentioned in an email to me that stability is 1st on your priority list, hope to see these issues addressed.
...

Unfortunately, xScope6 is hanging quite a bit on my admittedly underpowered Hero. v5 was much better in this regard. It's to the point where I'm not using xScope much :(.

I'm currently deciding between an Epic and an Evo; hopefully the faster hardware (and more memory) will make running xScope6 a much better experience.

Thanks for xScope!

A paid user,

jd

First of all, please refrain from calling people idiots regardless of how they may come off. These forums are meant to inform not ridicule. Secondly, the stock browser is perfectly fine, but it's also very basic. 4 window limit and so on. Xscope on the other hand provides much more and is visually appealing to boot.

Your point is very well taken and I agree fully. I was referring to myself as the idiot. You'll see that in the context of my op and quoted reply. I should have been clearer an said what an idiot I am rather the potentially confusing phrase I used.

I paid ...
The xScope great, I particularly like, the Back to the previous page, is loaded immediately.

Why the xScope uses a lot on cpu?

On xscope.net, the old paid version is zipped.
Unfortunately, as I tested, stock browser (no wonder its other forms with lipsticks) failed to download. Tried with xScope and no problem of downloading it. Then open with Astro and installed no problem.

People, xScope is NOT a a stock browser with pretty skins. We even write the downloading function from scratch. Love it or hate it. But it does allow you to download more otherwise not possible with stock.

Also I attached it here. It has to be Zip here due to the Forum limitation. It is the old version xScope 5, not the latest 6. to be clear.

By the way, your avatar is hilarious

Thanks! It's nice to see an app developer take such a vested interest. I'll have to reorganize my finances yet again it seems...

I've been in touch with Gary via email about a strange bug I'm experiencing with version 6 on my HTC Desire (running 2.2) but just wanted to see if anyone else is having a similar problem as it may help in tracking down the cause:

Since the update to version 6, tabs opened via external links (e.g. home screen bookmark shortcuts, links in Twitter and other apps etc) cause the browser to close whenever any tab is closed.

Example:
1. Open browser and visit web page (by entering a URL or selecting a bookmark from within browser)
2. Press home button to exit browser
3. Open Tweetdeck and click on link
4. Link opens in new tab in xscope
5. Close either the new tab or one that's already open
6. The tab closes, then the browser closes immediately afterwards

The same thing happens even if I close the browser in between step 4 and 5.

I did uninstall version 5 before installing version 6. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled v6 since to no effect.

Apart from this, everything else seems to be working as it should.

Would be interested to know if anyone else is experiencing this issue.

Hi folks-

I see the developer has been watching this thread, so hoping to
a) offer some advice to anyone else who hit my issue and
b) glean some advice for my now stuck situation.

I've been a happy paid user for quite a while now. Did the update to 6, had fun figuring out new stuff.

A few days ago, one of the incremental updates got stuck in the Market "downloading" forever. If I "canceled download", Market would fc with no change in situation when I reopened the Market.

So, diving in w/ ignorance and confidence, I uninstalled the ap, hoping to make room for a clean download. Only after doing this (to no avail) do I notice the comment that says "can't download? delete data".

Sometimes, being a Windows PC support tech leads me the wrong way in androidland. Oops.

So, I don't have a xScope 6 any more, and it appears you need the loaded ap to invoke the clear data function.

My phone is not rooted, so it appears I can't get at the ap data w/ EStrong or Astro to manually clear it out.

Restored an earlier backup of 5 so I don't have to swear at the stock browser.

Clearing data for v5 doesn't do anything to fix the v6 dowload.

Now have 2 issues:

a) I still have a perpetual download going at the top of my Market downloads, which is a constant annoying reminder that ...
b) I'm deprived of the ever-evolving goodness of V6 until I get some help.

Short of a hard reset, which I'd really rather not do, would anyone out there have any suggestions as to how to get that ap data cleared and that download unstuck so I can get back to a functional V6?

Original Droid, 2.2. Unrooted.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Have you tried clearing the market data?

Well, since you're in your predicament 'cuz of me, least I can do is attempt to return the favor.

You've probably seem this- not sure if this thread deals w/ your precise issue:
http://androidforums.com/android-applications/174460-i-want-break-market-link.html

Would AppBrain do it?

and, barring that, I'd be happy to get some $$ sent your way to cover the upgrade costs for anything (well, almost) that you were trying to avoid updating. I'll watch this thread.

* * *

Those who help out here are wonderful.

And those that put their own setup at risk to help strangers (yup, I am strange) are not only wonderful but also deeply appreciated.

What? You're very generous but that's is completely unnecessary. I just did a nandroid restore. It's not a big deal. :) Thanks though.

And THANK YOU! This is exactly what I have been wanting ever since I started hearing terrible things about the new Flixster, Pandora, and Google Voice updates :D

And to everyone else, sorry for getting the thread off topic there.

I have the new XScope 6, and other than the External link/FC issue, I am wholly satisfied with the performance of X-6 over stock or DolphinHD.

(The way I solve the External link issue is to use stock for the external links. If it's something I'll want to refer to again, then I copy&paste the URL into XScope.)

Frankly, I like the clean lines and lack of extraneous doo-dads that X-6 supplies. The full screen switch is easy - hit the 'MENU' button! And so on... the whole program seems to have been made from the point of a person who browses mobily fairly often; not like the 'let's put everything we can squeeze into it' mindset of the Dolphin crew.

I'd like to put in a request, tho'. If the developer could make a half-height 'streamlined' theme for the tabs, the browser would be as close to perfect as I could expect. When the tabs pop up, that eats up about 5% of the screen or so! I liked the standard tabs in X-5 because of their size, wish there were an option for it on X-6...

I have noticed this behavior as well. It is expected that the browser close once you have finished the intent it was opened for (browsing a link from another app).
It is not expected that it would close if you open the browser back up manually and then close the tab, in that instance the browser should not exit.

Since version 5 my history has never saved. I have changed roms multiple times and at some points not even restore my Internet settings to see if xScope would then start saving.

I have the "remove cache after exit" unchecked and it still does not save. Quite annoying having to repeat each website all the time.

Currently running a Samsung Galaxy S.

So... anyone?

Also I attached it here. It has to be Zip here due to the Forum limitation. It is the old version xScope 5, not the latest 6. to be clear.

Thank you so much for posting this. I have been trying to get to your website to download, but I cannot open it. I think your hosting provider might be blocked in my locale, as the local government blocks many things for different reasons. (I also don't have access to paid apps in the Market!)

I am switching back to v5. I like v6, but there isn't enough there in v6 to compensate for the linked watermark. I keep hitting that thing by accident. I understand why you have it, but I'd rather have a smaller non-clickable watermark or even ads.

Also, one issue I am having is that links get clicked when I am pinch zooming. Haven't had that problem in other browsers other than X-Scope.

That's godaddy hosting. It allows zip by default. Interesting thing is that somehow stock browser can't download it!
Trial is back for a while due to tooooo many email requests. It removed the click and watermark is smaller.
No plan to embed admob thing anytime.

Anyone know how to load 9 patch pro grammatically to a drawable object?

xscope drains battery quickly, even if moving to another application, the xscop continues to work and drain the battery.
All other browsers it is not so ..

I never noticed that. Where did you get your data from? I would love to see comparison tests because XScope is my default and if it's draining my battery I may reconsider that. Could you post your data, please?

This is my 4th time asking you this question and you are completely ignoring it. I purchased your product and am asking a simple question. How do you delete saved forms?

Are you ignoring it because you can't do it? Is anyone else curious how to do this as well?

I would appreciate a response. Thank you.
