I'm planning on installing the leaked Froyo because of the new features.

On a related topic: I'm personally more looking forward to a stable implementation of Froyo than Gingerbread. Perhaps I'm missing something, but the jump from 2.1 to 2.2 seems bigger than the one from 2.2 to 3.0. I know that Gingerbread is supposed to support bigger screens, more powerful CPUs, etc. But those improvements are irrelevant while I have my Captivate, and may actually work against this phone - devs might put most of their effort into adapting current software for newer Gingerbread-optimized hardware rather than into making new content.

I don't want Froyo... and frankly I'm surprised I'm taking that position, or maybe not... :)

Especially since 99% of the time, I'm a very avid early adopter.

Here's why I'm _not _eager, and why I will _skip_ Froyo.

1) Had it been available sooner, I would have upgraded out of matter of course.

2) While I've been waiting I have optimized Eclair 2.1 to perform so well, that I have no reason to upgrade. Eclair does absolutely everything I want in a brisk, stable, and reliable way. TouchWiz 3.0 is actually quite sufficient, even though I am a power user.

3) Time flies... and before we know it, I believe Gingerbread will be out. That is the OS I _will_ use in a new device I purchase shortly after Gingerbreads release.

Cheers... :)

While I respect and understand your reasoning that Android 2.1 is sufficient for your needs, there are still numerous bug fixes and improvements in 2.2 and you don't list any actual negatives or reasons to not to install it and get these. Plus, there are some really useful apps that require 2.2 (such at the only apps that can track data usage on a per-application basis).
