Root Battery Percentage!

You MUST have root before doing this.

I DO NOT take credit for any of this, but it works great and i wanted to share it with you all.

Root your device
- Flash your recovery
- Make a nandroid backup (just in case)
- Download THIS zip file
***UPDATED FOR DJO5. FOLLOW THIS LINK http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=849696***
- Place the zip file somewhere on your SD Card
- Boot into Recovery Mode
- Choose "Install from zip from sdcard"
- Choose the zip file that was downloaded
- Done! Easy right?

I know you can simply get an app/widget that will do the same thing, but i think this is a very clean/attractive method to see your battery percentage. Glad you guys are liking it

Wow! I love this so much more than the battery app I was using. Plus I finally went through all that Clockwork stuff - up till now I only went up to rooting >.<. Still not quite sure what I'm doing, but getting there at least. So thanks for posting this!

I would love this battery but I don't get that option when I boot in recovery....

The options I have are:

reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition

I even tried to rename the battery.zip file to update.zip but it errors out with "verification failed"

any ideas?

I ran into that same issue. First you go to Apply sdcard:update.zip, and then it'll bring you into another menu, and the fifth option down is "install zip from sd card" followed by "choose zip from sdcard." From there you can navigate to where you put the battery.zip file, install it, and restart the phone (the restart option is the top one if you back up enough). Just ask if you have more questions!

No its cake. Its even simpler and easier if you have the CWM on there thru ROM Manager; which I think you do??
If you or anyone does not I'd look into getting using ClockWorkMod/ROM Manager. This basically allows you to skip the step where you boot into recovery by holding in the volume button. You basically launch right into the CWM thru the app and then you make the same selection as mentioned above.
Its a tad of work upfront but in the long run will save you time and effort.

Have you successfully flashed clockwork recovery?

Here, this may sound weird, but is your screen blue text or green text when in recovery?

If it is blue with just the 4 options, you are not in clockwork.

To properly flash clockwork, follow instructions in this link:

You need to have the kernel flashed, which you probably do not. I know that via ROM manager, it will successfully "flash" clockwork, but you still need the kernel (which is provided above).

I did not do a nandroid before flashing this. Its basically a theme, so i felt it was safe to not do a nandroid. Now, that being said....its always smart to do nandroid before doing anything to your phone. lol

I have had no issues at all with this. And, its actually kinda nice. I like the color coding the developer did with the percentages.

Nope. Thats the beauty of this. Its not an app/widget.

It pulls the information straight from /system. It simply takes place of your stock battery icon (and of course adds the extra detail).

The percentage number is already in your phone and being figured, just not displayed. This does that for you without running a widget

Confirmed.
This matches the info you'd get from any app/widget. The system itself knows what its own battery % is, thats how all those apps can access the info

CWM is a custom recovery. You need it to install roms/themes/custom zips/etc..

You also need CWM to create nandroid backups.

You'll MUST have CWM in order to do the Odin kernel flash. That is why you cannot get the file to work.

Would this be more accurate than battery widgets that take their % from the system? For example, my battery tends to charge full, and then when I pull out the cord, the widget reads 98%. Gyea?

Yeah. Thats normal. When i pull after having it on charge overnight, it reads 96%-98%.

They both pull from the system, but the good thing about this is it doesnt "run" constantly in the background. It simply displays what information is already there.
