I did a quick search but didn't find anything, so apologies if it's a re-post.

My Desire was crashing, so I requested a replacement with O2 business.

I upgraded to 2.2 last week using the software update link on the phone.
Today I received my 'new' handset from O2 which still has 2.1-update1 as the firmware version. When I tried to upgrade I was informed there is no newer version.

Spoke to O2 business, who told me that HTC had withdrawn it again. I'm kinda pleased that my 2.2 desire has been sent back, if there are serious enough issues with Froyo for it to be withdrawn.

I did like a couple of things extra in the menu structures, but is it really that important?

I'll await O2's next move with anticipation

What serious issues are there with Froyo?

The rooted community has been using it for some time now. Sounds like the carriers are messing it up each time to me..

there was no major issues, only issues that relate to a handfull of devices that dont take to it very well. it happens on all updates

unfortunately carriers are pretty new to the wireless update stuff so when they get customers kicking off cos the update failed then they immediately start to do the quickest fix possible with is pull it.

you cannot remove a failure rate, there will always be one when wireless software and multiple configurations are concerned. especially as people install lots of crap on their devices.

its a shame they pulled it, probably will be no more updates from o2 now cos a small handfull complained

I haven't had a single issue with my O2 Froyo update (fingers crossed!). Hmm..

Agreed. No problems yet.

On a somewhat more negative note, I think this is pretty unreasonable of O2. Not only did they take ages (2 months) longer to bring out froyo than the unlocked version (simply to add a boot logo), but it crashed and bricked many users phones. As if that wasn't bad enough, its been almost a further month now and they have shown no signs of attempting to fix and redistribute the 2.2 update.

This is pretty unfair. Without froyo, two of the most important features for me (720p video and apps to sd) aren't available. So, if my desire breaks, I cannot currently restore back to 2.2 without hacking. This isn't acceptable. Why should I have to root a phone and potentially risk voiding my warranty for my phone which I paid over

The 2.10.405.2 has some problems, I don't understand why HTC didn't revert to 2.09.405.8 which seems to work just fine.

The O2 FroYo update would not have been 2.10.405.2. That is the current unbranded version (hence the "405" marker).

I've had my unbranded Desire for a month now. It came with 2.09.405.2 and a week or so later I upgraded to 2.10.405.2. It seems to be working fine.

I knew something was up when the update was available last night but.not today (I waited until I could download via wifi)
This badboys getting rooted asap
There's no need to root the Desire to get Froyo v2.2, you can simple update it with an unbranded generic version from HTC. Read the first post in this thread for details:

I used this RUU update and the Desire runs faster, does more, and works great. Thanks to teppic74 for his work!

Anyone else think this is a bit suspicious? O2 business have told me when and why it was withdrawn, but this guy can fix it with my details!
o2 business was lying to you.

the 1st time it was withdrawn was over 3 weeks ago. since it came back it shouldnt of been with drawn again.
I have connections with certain people at accreditation level of o2 and it was not supposed to of been withdrawn and the person who processed the request for ota distribution was unaware of the 2.2 update being pulled for a second time

So they werent technically lying, as it has been withdrawn, regardless who pulled it.

Still don't see why the guy 'supposedly' from O2 would need my IMEI details along with all the other info.

I would tread carefully. I have never ever seen O2 staff post on any other forums other than their own. And even on their own, the service is crap and they are unhelpful. Judging by your response ^^, I pressume you know the dangers of giving out an IMIE number publicly etc.

He says... "Feel free to drop me a PM with the details on if you don't want to share that here." Any trained agent wouldn't say "if you don't want to share that on here"... its a bit suspicious as why would anyone share it on here. Someone could remotely block your phone with it and claim one for themselves.

I could of course be completely wrong, and this guy could be completely legit and so on. So if that is the case I am sorry. But if it was me, I wouldn't be emailing him anything personal unless he can confirm he is an official employee. I reported to mods too just in case.

Hope this helps.

Hey man, thanks for the tip - I'm in the same boat as I am for wanting to root it though, I need to go pick my lazy ass up an additional memory card:D

Ive had my HTC Des for 6 weeks, it came shipped with froyo form O2.
Ive had a patch about 2 weeks ago no problem then another patch last night.

This patch seems to have disabled the WiFi and also prevents the device from downloading any message attachments.

not sure if i want to gold card (if i work out how) and flash the rom though.

Cur version 2.10.405.2

does anyone have a good suggestion that doesnt involve me going to the post office and sending my phone for a 2 week holiday?

thanks

theres no way your version is 2.10.405.2 on an o2 branded handheld
that is froyo HTC unbranded desire firmware

have you flashed this yourself using an RUU then applied the OTA without having your gold card in as it behqaves exactly like this. either that or this handheld was bought second hand debranded and didnt tell you about the gold card
