Root restoring to 2.1

Well, I am running Cognition 2.2beta1 and 2.2beta2 just reeleased today and I wanted to flash up to it. I read on XDA you have to flash back to 2.1 then up to beta2, so there is a write up about it here [STOCK ROM] Odin3 One-Click Downloader and Drivers CAPTIVATE ONLY - xda-developers

It says to use this Odin program to flash back to stock 2.1. I am attempting to do that now, Odin is running (i think) and has been doing a "file analysis" for the last half hour, so i am wondering what is going on and how long that is supposed to take. Flashing to cog 2.2 was qucik and easy.. not sure why its taking so long..

Update: Odin finished (i guess) and said <OSM> All threads completed. (Suceed 0/failed 1). so I am guess ing it failed..

Heh, well I guess I am unable to get the phone into download mode... Nothing people wrote in the 100 something pages on the XDA thread about it works. I can only get into Samsung recovery mode, so Odin wont work. I guess im Stuck with Cog 2.2beta1 untill I can find something that works... kinda makes me think twice before Fin with stuff in the future... why can Samsung make something that works out of the box so we dont have to F with it just to get it to work right?

Edit: even worse... Now my SIM is unrecognized.. so Now I have a small Galaxy tab?

DustinD,
Just put froyo on my captivate. Was wondering why you want to go back? Are you having problems with froyo?
Matt

Yeah, been unable to install some signed apps on the market, and my mail app can't delete mail, I think I'm going to try the cognition version instead.

Just used odin to get back to 2.1, was working fine now my phone won't turn on

might be bricked...

EDIT: Bricked, was able to flash 2.1 again and used UTB, works great.

That stinks.
Just to be sure, you turned your phone off then started Odin right?
Then you pressed both the volume up and down keys (NOT the power key) and plugged the USB cable into the phone?

Here are the directions I follow to flash with Odin3 One Click Downloader:

1. Power the phone off. (Some people say take the battery and Sim card out. I've never done this but it might be better to be safe and do it.)
2. Click the Odin executable.
3. Plug the USB cable into the computer if it's not already.
4. Hold both the volume up and volume down keys but NOT the power button
5. While holding the volume up and down keys in plug the USB cable into your phone.
In a moment your phone should enter "download mode" You should see a yellow triangle with the Android digging.
6. Click Start in Odin3 One Click Downloader

Thanks for the tip though, Ill give it a try when I have time and see what happens.

I need to re-flash to clean up a bad install to 2.2. Will Odin work on 2.2 to restore to 2.1?

I have tried to use Odin3 1.3. It will recognize my phone, but nothing at all happens when I press start. I've tried several reboots (phone and Win7 PC), using different usb ports, and re-installing the phone drivers on Win7.

The phone WILL go into download mode. And it does show up in a yellow box in Odin3.

TIA
