Are you happy with Samsung Galaxy S i9000?

Well I'm happy with my S now, only had it two weeks. I originally wasn't going to do any unofficial firmware upgrades to it, as I need it to be reliable as my main phone. However I was getting some lag, occasional freezes and the lack of Flash 10 was a bummer for some of the sites I look at regularly. So I upgraded it to 2.2 Froyo JPK using Odin3 as detailed on the XDA fora and all is now peachy with my phone.

Kies is a horrible thing, while I got it to work. I'm just glad I don't have to use it.

I really like this phone very much.
All functions of the phone worked just fine for me, except for the frequent lag issue.
Once I applied the VooDoo lag and color fixes, adjusted the headphone sound settings in the service mode, the phone started to perform just flawlessly without any lags. Even the GPS works very nicely and helped me find a concert hall better than my on-board GPS in the car!

With the lag issue fixed, I have absolutely no complaint but only praises for this phone.
Sure Samsung could have implemented better software, but I consider it a part of fun to optimize the phone through the help of open developers' community. There are many great minds working on the Android platform to enhance the users' experience of Android phones and I really appreciate their help. It's a great phone, supported by a great community of wonderful minds! ^^

Is Windows seeing the phone correctly? That is NO device driver errors in the Device Manager from the Control Panel. This has to be correct before Kies will work.

I do like it now but I have had a few problems. The internal SD card said it was full even though I had deleted everything of it?? luckily the man at carphone warehouse new his stuff and managed to get all the memory back by reformatting the SD card! It seems you have to be a bit of a geek to keep your galaxy running smoothly.
Oh and kies is rubbish.

I've personally talked to about a dozen of my friend's out of buying this, recommended the iphone and HTCs instead...the only people I would recommend the Galaxy to, are my geeky friends, the ones who like to root and flash and what-not...but for some strange reason, they all have iphones...c'est la vie!

I love my galaxy s with root, lag fix, GPS fix its cool being able to customize a phone and make it different to everyone else's.
Not too worried about froyo having coloured icons and flash support doesn't really interest me but might try a custom rom in the future when they get better.

The iPhone, iPod Touch and even the iPad, can actually be a real geek's device, just as much as Android IMO. Once their jailbroken and hacked of course. After all it's basically BSD Unix in them things.

If you tap the screen at the end of the word you want to delete, the curser will move there. Delete the word , letters etc, then tap end of the text you were typing and the curser will move back ..

it does what i need it to do. tat is play videos WITHOUT needing to convert to a specific format, and on a very nice screen to boot.

Was already a heavy user of Google Calendar and gmail, so now everything is autosync. Wonderful!

Kies might be an issue... if I ever found the need to install it that is. Maybe when I need to upgrade to 2.2... but frankly speaking, no idea what else I need it for.

...Only thing missing is some way to go back through a line of text and correct typos. The Portal has a cursor button at the bottom, and the iphone lets you magnify text by pressing on it. I can't find a similarly easy way of doing it with my SGS.

Tap end of word or letter u have mispelt the curser will move there , erase word , tap end of sentence . curser will return ....

I like the phone but my issue with it turning off for no apparent reason is bugging me. Hopefully we get the common bug fixes soon.

I really like having the Allshare feature with my phone and Samsung TV. Being able to playback my videos and pictures on my TV with a touch of the screen and wireless connection is awesom.

How do u do it I have samsung hd ready tv

I like the UI however there are too many issues at the moment, inability to send pictures via mms or email (pictures are received, but they will not open). A single signature for all accounts (insane), the inability to sync with Outlook without a 3rd party app. The email client is very minimal, not much capability and customization. No LED for notification, just stupid to me.

I think the phone has great potential, however I think it relies on too many 3rd party solutions to get it to function properly.

The pros are the media, the screen, the browser and the ability to search for 1000's of free apps.

Overall I am a bit disappointed. I have yet to have a phone that almost perfectly (don't expect perfection) merges high-end media capability with common business use i.e. exchange, pop accounts, notifications and other common features etc. If I could combine the PalmPre 2 with the Captivate it would be he perfect phone...

I have to say I'm disappointed in the phone... I'm a newbie into the Android world and finally decided to get a Smartphone - iPhone was out due to Apple's lockdown mentality. After some discussions with a friend, I thought I'd take the plunge with the the SGS - and I love the phone about 50% of the time ... as long as I don't need the GPS or don't mind the lag or the signal disappearing. I was standing on the top tier of the Coliseum and could not get a GPS fix - how screwed up is that? Occasionally, if I power the phone completely off and then back on, the GPS will work, but it constantly seems to lose the fix. I have to admit the shock of the short battery life going from a "regular phone" to a smart phone was a shocker, but a spare battery will easily take care of that.
I'm going to have to eventually brace myself and try the lag fix, but I'm petrified I'll really screw things up - I'll need to research a lot more before doing so. I'm hoping the next version of software will fix some of these problems, but I guess that will be a challenge for me to just update that!
I'm not totally regretting the purchase... yet.

Had 16GB SGS for a month or so. Have Samsung Netbook and Dell laptop, both on Windows 7 and latest Kies installed. At various times have had problems connecting to either Kies or in WMP mode. Currently won't connect in either mode on either laptop. Use Mass storage mode which is fine as I can drag and drop over 20 Gb of music and keep track of it. Problem will arrive when I need interface with Kies to ungrade to 2.2. Reckon its the drivers on the phone and not Kies. Tried various options but really need Samsung to offer a definitive fix.
That aside, phone is the best

...i've ever owned by a large margin. Beats iphone because:
1. You can replace the battery. I got a spare + remote charger off ebay for 8 pounds
2. You have great predictive texting with the option of 1-9 keypad entry which converts to Qwerty when u turn phone landscape. [iphone only has qwerty]
3. Swipe text input
4. music storage is mp3/wma/aac. Not just aac via itunes as on iphone
5. that bright screen is good even in strong sunlight
6. its cheaper than iphone!

I do it by adding the letter x to my APN name so that it cannot connect. Which is downright silly.

I wish there is a cellular data on/off switch like wifi and Bluetooth.

I moved from the iPhone to the SGS and I love the phone. However, I bought one for my wife and another for me and both had to be sent back to Samsung for repairs. I have to wonder about their quality control... As mentioned previously, some issues I have are:

• Kies sucks.
• GPS does not always lock right away, innacurrate.
• Some apps on iPhone are not available on Android (yet).

I don't think I will be going back to Apple anytime soon (unless I have problems with my replacement handset).

I just upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant to Android 2.2 with expectations set by all the promises from Samsung.

First of all the good news. The upgrade via Kies was easy and the installation worked.

Now the middle of the road news. The upgrade tried to migrate your old apps and settings, but they cause many crashes. So I did a refresh to factory via the 3 button reset.

The phone cleared everything and when I installed my mail client info and all, things worked impressively well.

Now the bad news.

Fuc#ing Samsung did not keep their promise to fix the GPS issues. The GPS is worse than it was in the past. I am a golfer and need the GPS to work so I can use GolfShot, and this is going to fuc# me up.

So a note to Samsung, get off your fuc#ing a$$es and get a fix for the GPS.
Also, the Android Store now does not present some apps I had previously purchased. Specifically, SlingPlayer Mobile. I hear that the app store is having problems and is filtering apps from some phones.
What a cluster fuc#.
Want to know how I really feal!!!
Note to Samsung, get your $hit together.

I bought my SGS in July and since then have flashed almost every new beta firmware as it came out using ODIN. I've used ODIN because kies is so awful.
AT LAST! Samsung got their act together with the leaked 2.2.1 firmware (XXJPU).
No need for any lagfix and the GPS is accurate at last.
I still have it rooted because I like a little more control and being able to use apps such as Titanium Backup and SetCPU (To underclock a little to help with battery life).
WELL DONE SAMSUNG.
