Root appt2sd partition

When I load a new ROM with wiping via ROM Manager, I see this:

Preparting to install ROM...
Formatting CACHE...
Formatting DATA...
Formatting SDEXT...
No apps2sd partition found. Skipping format of /sd-ext.

1. This message doesn't appear to be causing any problems with my phone. Is this something that needs to be corrected? If so, how?

2. Are all of these partitions located on the SD card itself or in the ROM?

3. What do I need to do to correct this?

4. Does the apps2sd application move the applications to the apps2st/sd-ext partition? If so, I'm confused. I use the apps2sd app. If the partition doesn't exist, where are they moved to?

What ROM are you loading?

It depends on whether you're referring to Froyo's Apps2SD functionality, or DarkTremor's Apps2SD implementation (more info here: FAQ: Apps2sd Information)

Generally speaking, ROMs with DT's Apps2SD cooked in is optional. What you essentially do is wipe and repartition your SD card, and the the Apps2SD takes advantage of that transparently. This is different from Froyo's "move an app to the SD card" functionality.

Hope this helps.

Yes it does help. I'm trying out a number of different ROMS. I was wondering if ROM-specific apps2sd was different from the Froyo implementation and it was created before Froyo to do the same thing.

Since the ROMs I'm trying are Froyo-based, I'm guessing I don't have to do anything.

Except they don't do the same thing.

DarkTremor's Apps2SD is a more "pure" implementation, vs Froyo's implementation.

In a nutshell, with Froyo's implementation, an app itself must be modified to allow Froyo to move it from the standard app installation location to a new location on the SD card.

DT's implementation "mounts" the new SDCard partition in the standard app installation location, so ALL apps essentially are loaded onto the SD Card. It is transparent and can only be done with rooted, custom ROMs.

Read more about it here:

[Script][A2SD] Darktremor Apps2SD 2.7.5.2 (10/03/2010) - xda-developers

This posts also lists which Evo ROMs already have this cooked into it.
