A question about handscent

Two questions actually

1. When I view the messages, I can see also the first line of the message I sent to the person, can I remove that so all I see is the persons name I sent the message to, so its just a bit more private.

2. Can I change the string format so that the last message I received off that person is the one on the top of the list, logically than on the bottom

Not with the stock messaging app.

1):thinking:Why would you want to when the app immediately opens at the most recent message (so you don't have to scroll through) and
2):thinking:Why is it logical to add new items to the top of a list? Do you write lists from the bottom up? Weird.

My mistake. Was reading through multiple posts.

So here goes:

1) Don't know. Handcent isn't stable. Lasted about an hour on my phone.
2) Don't know. Seeing as adding new items to the top of a list is essentially idiotic, I doubt it.

Hope this helps.

As I thought you dont even have the app, probably dont even have a phone.

We read from the top down, or at least in civilized countries thats how it works. Reading and understanding?Any idea how that works?

So when you compose a piece of writing (a message, list, poem whatever) where do you add your new sentence/item/line etc?

Think about it for a nanosecond, Einstein and you'll realize that, if you read the message thread on your phone from start to finish it makes sense to read from the top down (you know, how we actually do it in the English language).

See this is where you show how little you know about andoid and handscent. With handscent when you read the string of the message the latest message is the bottom one, when it should be the top (if we liken it to writing a list or reading a book or our emails) But for someone who couldnt even succesfully install handscent Im not surprised you dont get it, Im just a bit surprised that they allow you to add no value to other peoples posts, nothing Einstien about that, just common decency imo

I see that you're being deliberately obtuse.

With Android and Handcent the latest (newest) message is displayed, where it should be, at the bottom of the 'thread'. You'll notice that in this forum each new post appears beneath the previous one. This is because of how we both construct (and read) English. New information (such as items in a list or sentences in a passage of writing or words in a sentence) gets added at the end.

Example:
1) First message
2) Second message
3) Future messages.....

New messages in Android and Handcent get added at the end of the "message thread" or "conversation" enabling you to read the entire thread from start to finish (top to bottom) if you so desire. It makes perfect sense if you wish to read the previous message(s) to look at those above the current message. (You know, in the same way that we read lists, emails, books and such?)

In custom style you can set the font colour to be white or the font size to 1. Both will achieve what you're looking for. Or you could just stick to the one girlfriend. ;)

Don't think your second question is achievable.

Have a look at board member furious duck's post and compare his answers and attitude to yours. He added value to this forum and at the same time helped me solve a problem that's how it works I think. Im not going to argue whether the latest message should be at the top or the bottom, thats a personal taste thing and familiarity, for me the latest message in a string should be the top one, that how the Android/handscent program collates the initial message (before you click onto that SMS) I just wanted to know if it can be done, if I asked if i am weird, then your original answer would have been fine, but I didnt ask that

Furious ducks response, take a gander (pardon the pun) thats how it works, thats adding value

1) Because you had an issue with an app, does not make it unstable.
2) Why is it idiotic? just because someone has a different preference to yourself.

The default for emails in Outlook is to have the newest email at the top. My preference is to have it at the bottom, does that upset you?
Never understood why someone would answer a post if they knew neither of the answers to the questions being asked.

BTW if you post a reply to this...scroll down and look at all the posts below...the latest one is at the top and the first one is at the bottom, so you better tell androidforums and all the mods that they're idiots too. :D

Correct. However, it is unstable.

2) Why is it idiotic? just because someone has a different preference to yourself.

Composing things backwards is, at the very least, a little weird. Maybe idiotic was too strong a term. By the way, composition of the English language follows rules not preferences.

The default for emails in Outlook is to have the newest email at the top.

How interesting.

BTW if you post a reply to this...scroll down and look at all the posts below...the latest one is at the top and the first one is at the bottom

Nope. The first message is at the top of page one and the latest, newest message is at the bottom.

Widehead, how is it HC and unstable app?

Had it since day 1, never had a force close and never had an issue with receiving or sending SMS or MMS....

Seems pretty stable to me...

I had serious issues with handcent on my Desire within about 30 minutes or so of installing it. It failed to send messages and would retry sending every second or so - registering a failed attempt alarm every time. It rendered my phone unusable until I uninstalled the app.

There are other users on the Desire forum who have had issues with Handcent. I'm not the only one. Shame because I like how it looks.

You probably had network issues at the time. Handcent is a stable app. I'd give it another chance if I was you.
