Help first question!

Hi all
This is my first post, so I hope you don't mind if I ask more than one question.
1. The million dollar question - when is the Flash upgrade coming? The only thing I've seen is that it would here in September, and as it's now October, well.... :)
2. I've installed the bbc iplayer, but it never works....which brings me to the next question...
3. Quite often, I can't get online, especially youtube (and especially in high quality). I'm interested to know if this is an issue with the phone or my provider (Orange). I was at a friends last night and there was another X10 (on O2), an iphone and a blackberry. Mine was the only phone that couldn't get online.
3. My friend put a film on my memory card which wouldn't play on my phone, but would play on my mates. What file type do I need to play movies on my X10?
4. (last one!) I've found Yamgo, but that only let's me watch itv 1+2. Is there anyway I can watch any other TV channels? That would be sooo cool!!

That'll do for now! If I can give a little back here's a tip (although I'm sure u all know it!!). If you hold down you're finger on the screen, you will get a list of further options become available. I've discovered LOADS of functions, cut and paste, open links in new windows, save links, the list goes on. Pretty much anything you press and hold will give you a difflerent list of options. Hope that helps someone!
Anyways thx in advance for any help provided
Cheers
David

Hello David and Welcome!

I will try and answer your questions in the order that you asked them, so here goes...

The upgrade is due to be rolled out by SE at the end of this month but it then depends on your carrier as to how long it takes to get to you. Hopefully it won't be long after but I don't know what Orange's reputation for updates is.

BBC in their infinite wisdom banned the app that would work on our phones as it was a third party render of Iplayer. But they have made their own android app. Hurrah you think, no sadly not. You need Android 2.2 to use it - no good for us at all then.

I would think the getting on line thing is network coverage. I am with Tmobile and I can normally get online unless I am in the wilds of the countryside and there is no signal at all. I can't update my Twitter app over 3g tho.

There is an app called Rockplayer which I have heard recommended in many quarters, I think they do a free version so you could always download it and give it a go. Media Go comes with PC Companion and this is a link to the file formats supported, the only thing I would add is that I have heard it takes a while to copy the files over Media Go: Supported File Formats - Sony Media Software and Services Inc.

Yeah I have only found Yamgo which is fine if you want to watch a couple of ITV channels but not found a way to do any others. Maybe someone else can chip in....

Hope some of the above helps.

When you say Flash upgrade, do you mean camera flash or Flash 10.1?

If it's Flash 10.1 then we need to wait till SE gives us 2.2 and trust me now I have so many mates with HTC Desires that can watch/play anything that runs on Flash it's doing my head in and 2.2 does all I want without rooting including wifi hotspots.

2, As said you need 2.2

3, Could be Orange as I have/had no issues with watching youtube in high def via 3g

4, (You have 2 3's) Video files need to be in an MP4 format and I have found Zimly media player gave the best quality playback.

5, (your 4) never used that app so cant help on that one.

As a current Desire user (I know, stop throwing rocks at me) lol, I have to say, I hardly ever use flash websites, and when I do, they are sloooow lol. Checking the Lottery results is impossible as the flash advert at the top of the page covers the results!! Argh.. oh and 2.2 upgrade removed the option in the browser to turn off flash content too lol! :D

So not having flash built into the browser, can be a good thing lol.

Rosered: the link you included in your reply (media go) is that just for info or am I suppose to download something. Excuse the dumb question :)

It was only intended for info of the supported file formats. Media Go is part of the PC Companion that you get with the phone or you can download it from SEUS so I assumed you had access to it already.

Let us know if you get sorted. Have you tried the Zimly or Rockplayer apps yet?

Regarding YouTube: If you are connected to Wifi, I noticed that most videos you view will be viewed in the high quality mode by default. When using your data plan, you need to start viewing the video, then press then left hard button, click MORE, then select High Quality. Same deal during Wifi viewing, if the video doesn't happen to view in High Quality, then do the same. Left hard button, click on MORE, then High Quality.
