So it looks like BestBuy has HTC car mounts for the EVO in stock. Though for some reason they have it listed as a Griffin Technology product, either way. This it good news..

Now we just need the HTC HDMI media dock.

$60.00!!!! Are they on Crack?!?!?!?

Its the best build quality of any mount I have seen/used before, including ones that come with standalone GPS models and its made to fit a $500 phone with a top-tier data plan, its not exactly for the hard-up folks.

Im glad I got mine, its much better for my purposes than the 3rd party ones. I fly a lot to strange cities and its worked in every rental I have had so far and is compact in my bag.

Good to hear that you are happy with your purchase, so am i with mine.

does this dock still disable access to the sd card?

The dock doesnt disable access to the SD card, that was just mistaken comment from some moronic blogger. However, the dock doesnt allow the phone to operate over the USB to another device. No HTC sync, no mounting as a drive, no internet sharing.

And its not a design flaw according to HTC and Google. It has to do with the "Car Panel" mode that is built into android that attempts to simplify the device to look more like a GPS. When you dock it two pins are shorted out that tells the phone that its connected to a dock and to go into dummy mode.

Unfortunately those pins are ones used for communication on USB, meaning the phone can pass along communication to external devices.

But it has no impact on the phones access to the card. You can still play music and such, you just have to use a headphone connector or bluetooth if you want to play music from your cars speakers.

thank you for clearing that up. I actually went out and found a different dock based off that comment and the fact that the camera hole is blocked.
Sadly several other moronic bloggers copied and pasted the first's original info...because I read it in about 5 different locations

I'll try out this $4 dock I got on ebay and then maybe check into the htc dock...or a proclip dock...those look awesome

What's so bad about covering the camera when docked in the car?

When you say "no internet sharing", do you mean you cannot use the mobile hotspot function?

Why do people keep acting like our phones are covered in diamonds? A lot of phones are $200+ with contract, with a $500 non contract price.

OMG we paid $200 for our phones and have an $80 monthly phone bill. We're RICH!

Where did I say they were covered in diamonds? Are you too poor for a $60 accessory? If so maybe you should be on a pay as you go phone instead of a $200 phone subsidized by an $80 a month plan.

Of course your response could be that you wanted the features and were willing to pay the premium, the same could be said for people who got the car mount.

I am not too poor to pay $60 for an accessory. But I am not so rich that I am willing to overpay for a carmount.

I dont understand why buying a $200 phone with a Dataplan makes you feel like a baller. A lot of phones over the last 10 years has been around $200 or more. The Razr was $200 with 2 year contract. The Nextel i730 was $225 with contract.

Also, my HTC EVO is a $150 phone, subsidized by a $66/month plan.

I never said I feel like a baller, just that I can justify the cost of the mount because its better than the other mounts in my opinion and I dont have to be on crack to buy once since its less than a months service on an expensive plan. If I was really hard up I wouldnt be on this plan or using a smartphone.

All of those phones were considered high-end when they were that much, I wasnt making the statement to say I am a baller, just that you should stop whining about the cost of an (fully featured) accessory when you are using a higher end product. Unfortunately its not working, you just want to twist it into making it look like I should be rocking a diamond grille.

Its a nice car mount and $60 isnt that high for a car mount. Its actually cheaper than the only other decent car mount that is 3x as bulky, has no metal and has the cable hanging from the phone.
