Don't worry my fellow Eris owners we'll get ours too this Friday. I'm kinda excited for the improvements.

Here is a list of the improvements we are expecting.

1. SMS blanks msgs sent - fix

2. MMS - Improve pic/audio transmission

3. camera MMS error fix

4. MMS cannot display fix

5. Lag when receiving calls or msgs

6. End call button leading to ended calls fix - Trackball will wake up phone

7. Signal indicator fix

8. Stuck on 1X fix

9. Factory reset fix - DON'T Factory reset your phone until the update It sounded pretty bad.

10. Calendar Fix - seems it wasn't taking into account day light savings and the appointments might be off by 1 hour.

11. Word completion fix - in the US the primary language is English, meaning no accented words for the most part. This stop word completion from bring up accented words. Should cut down on the selection to the right words.

DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY!;)

sigh...
im that spoiled kid that thinking "is that it"
I WANT GOOGLE NAVIGATION AND GOOGLE GOGGLES!!!
I WANT THE STUFF IN THE MARKET PLACE THE REQUIRES 1.6 OR ABOVE!!!
WHY ARE WE STUCK IN THE PAST??
WHY WHY WHY!

wow...i actually feel a lil better :)

Just think if we can gain root from this update! That would be worth it and no worries at that point.

I wish they would put in something that would change the color of the trackball or the indicator light to something other than white/orange&green.

And something that would optimize battery life.

But other than that, Eris rocks!

Oh, and I too want Google Nav. I have no idea what Google Goggles is, but it sounds interesting.

dude!!
dont tease with root access!
dont even mention it! :)
cause if that is the case we are good to go on MANY levels!
we can upgrade to whatever version is available!
we can load apps to SD and backup the entire device (including your settings!)!
infinite possibilities :)
google goggles is there new app that allows you to take a picture of an object (for example the ben franklin bridge) and google will search based on the picture.
imagine the future...take a picture of a person and it tells you who they are!! :)
thats my 007 dream! (Die another day)

Aaaaah, so THAT'S what rooting can do!

Sweet!

WHEN will this happen, oh wise ones??

one question, perhaps a very stupid one, but I am new at this.

Doesn't "rooting" your phone put you at a very high risk of, what do you call it, "bricking" your phone?

I would not want to turn my phone into a brick, oh wise ones.

I like my phone, but would like to have a, what do you say, a "superuser" access to it!

How many occasions does it actually result in your phone being turned into an ugly brick, a stupid object good only for weighing down a stack of paper in a drafty or breezy office?

yes any mods to your phone may cause it to brick. but the bricks your refering to had to do with a modified spl made to add more space on the G1 so we could pack hero in there. what wasn't taken into account was that the G1 for a short time ran 2 versions of motherboards which the spl played nice with one but was evil to the other. now ussually if your going to do things like root. make sure you read and undrstand the steps if your unsure don't do it. wait till a dumbed down set of instuctions come along that you can understand.

I wouldn't do it unless more people have succes. Let them go first :)

To all the Android Veterans ... does the update come at a certain time on Friday? Does it go out to everyone at once, or does it go out all day long?

i think they choose a time to start the release but when our phones acctually see the update is random ussually they run a test batch first round then stoke up the fires for the full release

i spoke to verizon yesterday. the update has already begun. they are doing 10,000 a day for a few days then they will take a few days off and then continue. they have over 200,00 phones to update so it will take some time. you will recieve an update in your notifications bar. the tech also told me to make sure i have a full battery or am plugged in before starting the update because if the phone dies before its finished hes not sure what will happen. this update is going to fix battery issues by helping to better manage the applications and software for optimal battery life. also will help with signal strength and the other stuff mentioned up top. it is not 2.0 and he didnot know when and or if that was coming.
