So last night I was playing video games while getting drunk.

Played about 10 mins of Rez, I then played Split Second. Then I moved on to Enslaved.

My gf came in and turned down the volume to zero and said, "Do you really need the sound? Isn't it a visual thing?". I said, "do you watch the TV with the sound off?" and she starts crapping on about how that's different, and how mine is only a game.

I might become Muslim so I can beat her.

I know some girls who are hardcore gamers... like... "I'MA F**KIN POP A CAP UP YO ASS MOTHAFU**A!" kind of gamer. They scare me. :( We play boardgames also and umm... don't piss them off. lol I have a good friend who absolutely loves anything to do with killing zombies or anything similar to it... so she's a huge Resident Evil fanatic. I like watching her play and cussing at the TV while I do my French homework.

Uhh do they play Call Of Duty games?

I only hear 12 year old kids all the time saying stuff like that but never a female. Those gf of yours are way hardcore.

but to follow up on a point you made of "i need to find a new g/f...." I agree. You two are not in the same place. She's ready to grow up and you're still into having fun. You did nothing wrong, neither did she. But it seems that this issue is the tip of a titanic sinking iceberg in your relationship.

I had a g/f one time (not anymore lol) that would get pissed at me, throw controllers cussing mad pissed, when we'd play MarioKart 64 (yes, it was that long ago) With all the songs being played during the races, I would ad-lib words to them while we were racing. They were crude, vulgar lyrics being sung to the really upbeat and happy music. Everyone usually laughed. But one day, while having a pretty good run against everyone a particular night, she snapped....

"suck on bof' deez nuts..... suck on bof' deez nuts" Sprinkle in a "BAMMMMM TAKE THAT BLUE TURTLE SHELL UP THE ASS LIKE YOU TOOK (back to the music) "bof of deez fat nuts" and a controller went wizzing by my head and she stormed out.

Girls just don't understand video games and our mentality while playing. When I play football games with my friends, crude lyrics are added to all college fight songs after I score a TD. I'll put my face MILLIMETERS next to their cheek (because we won't look at each other when one is getting over on us) and I'll WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOO in their ear, followed up by a siren type WOOOOWWOOOOOWOOOOWOOOO. If a guy snaps and says "just hit the x and shut up" everyone in the room starts busting his balls over cracking....

Easy. Build a dedicated theater in the basement on the opposite side of the house from the master bedroom. Sound proof all the walls and ceiling as well as the walls of the master bedroom & floors... problem solved. Oh, it helps to marry a smokin' hot chick who NEVER tells you what to do and is a heavy sleeper. Man... as I type this I realize I'm livin' the dream. lol

Go for a walk and buy your things online through your phone :p

I know you're joking, but leaving my smart phone at home is as essential as dressing for the weather when I'm out walking or on my bike.

That's when I carry my iPhone.* :D

* note of disclaimer to iPhone users: the above is a joke, calm down, take note of smiley and laugh. 2nd smiley --> :D

If you've got your volume set obnoxiously high, don't act surprised it when it annoys someone. It's called being considerate of other people.

Well, the first sentence in the OP gives us an indication as to why being considerate was at the time most likely a forgotten concept.

Relationship + loud media = compromise.

Drinking + relationship + loud media = recipe for tensions.

lol... you really have no idea.. I would say the fact is she is the one who isn't ready go grow up. My gf and I broke up in part over games.... I am a gamer.. she plays causally when it suits her.

However, I can't sit there and do nothing (watch jersey shore for example, not that my ex watched this just an example) and let my brain go "low power mood" unless I'm listening to music or something.. different people have different needs.. maturity is a part of accepting that.

Video games have been my life longer than any woman.. and I really wish my ex and I could have worked things out better.. but, the truth is we are just different when it comes to key aspects of personality.. it has nothing to do with "where we are in life" or "how grown up" we are..

While I am not working on marriage yet.. I am glad to say my new prospect seems to fit this category.

@OP.

I personally can't game without headphone's one way or the other.. I'm a PC gamer myself.. headphones are a necessity.. I'm considering splurging like 300$ for christmas and getting a dedicated gaming soundcard + some Audio Technica ATH-AD700's or A700's both have pretty good remarks for gaming.. not sure which would suit the musical taste better though.

I'd say that there is a bit of maturity when it comes to video games. I used to be a hardcore gamer back in middle school and early high school. Once my academics started to become really strenuous, video games started becoming less and less part of my life. Now that I'm in my 3rd year of undergraduate studies... I really have no time to devote to video games. For me, it's a waste of time because at the end of the day... it has gotten me nowhere. It's actually much harder now to find gamers than it was in high school because more people have "grown out" of video games. Some people don't lose their interest in video games while others lose it quickly. I still have a bit of an interest in them but don't feel compelled to play them.

I don't know of any 50 yr olds who are still "gamers".

Depends on what games you play too. Most of the 'mature' guys I game with play Modern Warfare, Battlefield and other FPS muli-player games.

I'll be 33 in a few months and most of the guys I play with regularly are in their 30's with a select few in their 40's. I don't know that it is so much a maturity thing so much as a generational thing. The 'gamer generation' hasn't quite hit 50's yet but when it does I have a feeling there will be TONs of gamers still playing in their 50's.
