Just started using Launcher Pro

1. Buy the plus for $2.99 SO WORTH IT

2. Make sure you use 15 scrollable dock icons

3.use the swipe gestures for the dock cons (makes for 30 total actions)

Go to the launcher pro website and read the forums...... I got my dock background there.

(popup is for plus users.....

Any docks somewhat look like the Sense one? I found LauncherPro, notwithstanding its customization options, to be a bit boring having gotten so used to Sense. I paid for Pro, used it for a few weeks, and went back to Sense. A month later tried it again, and it still felt like something what missing, so back to Sense I went. I think it's the overall look.

Any tips to spice it up?

What exactly does sense do that impressed you that launcher doesnt do.

As for what launcher does that sense doesnt , here are some of my faves:

1. scrolling dock. 15 spots that you can customize. I use app organizer folders for 5 of them.... I have every app I use frequently at my finger tips much closer.

2. popups. New feature with a bookmark popup. Dont have to use an entire homescreen for bookmarks.

3. Launcher widgets. Love the twitter/facebook one. Love the contacts one.

4. dock backgrounds...... I use a football field one right now and most of my icons are droids with a small logo ont hem..... looks like a droid football team.... love it

5. swipe gestures for dock icons. each ofthe 15 can have a different action when you swipe instead of touch. I use popus and such for these...... truly awesome.

I cant think of anything I miss about the sense launcher experience. It was good, but Launcher Pro Plus is great.

I guess other than the GPS widget, which appears irreplaceable, not a ton. I just like the look of the Sense bar at the bottom, even though it's rather useless except for Phone.

I also felt like I was getting worse battery life and some random issues with LP. I use WidgetLocker for my lock screen, and with all these apps on top of Sense, something just felt "off."

Agreed. I miss the dock. I just found its look a bit bland. I tried all the built in options, and none impressed me. Maybe I need to check out some dock backgrounds.

2. popups. New feature with a bookmark popup. Dont have to use an entire homescreen for bookmarks.

As a big user of the HTC Bookmarks widget, I'll admit this sounds cool.

3. Launcher widgets. Love the twitter/facebook one. Love the contacts one.

Can you just have it display Twitter? I don't want my rather small Twitter feed (I use it for sports/tech news only) cluttered with my hundreds of useless Facebook status updates (I'm far less interested in what some guy I met 4 years ago is doing for lunch today).

haha, I will have to explore this further.

Do you accidentally swipe a lot, causing actions to occur you didn't want? Seems like it could be an issue, but perhaps not?

I guess just the clean look and some of the widgets.

I use tasker and can turn GPS on/off with a widget made thought tasker. However, I dont use GPS often.

I set Sense at the blank theme before going into launcher. Between that and the recent updates, I dont see any battery life issues.

If you go to the Launcherpro website I think you can find dock backgrounds that look nicer than Sense and you can change what the buttons do.

As a big user of the HTC Bookmarks widget, I'll admit this sounds cool.

The popup I have as a swipe gesture on my internet icon..... easy to remember and no need for bookmark widget.

He has twitter, facebook, and friends (both facebook and twiiter) widgets.

haha, I will have to explore this further.

With the newest versions, i am able to change the icons to anything I want... custom icons, pics, whatever...... I got a set of droid icons on another site someone made.... they are sweet

I havent had that problem. Once or twice I clicked the icon when I meant to swipe, but even that is rare.

I guess just the clean look and some of the widgets.

I have fancy widgets (which I dont use) and honestly, it was the only widget I used from HTC. (wait, I used bookmarks too). I use Pure Messenger widget and with Launcher it is scrollable. I use it with K9 for all my email. LOVE IT TOO.

I just started using LP as well, but being a cheapo I'm not really seeing any advantages without purchasing a bunch of things.

I bought Beautiful Widgets to use with WidgetLocker, and must say, even with Sense, I still use it over the HTC Weather widget. It's much more customizable and fun to play with. Well worth the $2.

Other than that, you don't really need to buy anything because LP has all the HTC widgets except the settings ones, but I use Quick Settings, which I happen to like even better than widgets. Hold the Search button for 2 seconds and a list of all your settings (also customizable) pops up from anywhere you are in Android. This one's free.

You dont NEED to buy anything else

Id suggest buying launcher pro plus..... it IS worth it.

Otherwise, if you read up and ask around, you can get anything you need mostly for free (and legally).

Just as an idea, here is what I use for widgets and such:

Retro Clock/Retro Date
custom tasker widgets (not free)
App Organizer folders
Weatherbug widget
mini info
audio manager
dazzle
pure messenger (not free)
Meridian widget for music player
astrid tasks
jorte calendar

(pure messenger can be replaced by launcher widget)

See, most everything I use is or could be free. My wallpaper is free, my dock background I got off LP forum free. Icons I found free.

I have been using Launcher Pro Plus for the last few days, and while I really like it, I have noticed a significant drop in battery performance. I realize that is this could be from several other things, so I am not complaining, simply asking if anyone else has had this problem and if there are any basic troubleshooting tips to fix it.

Something I've heard, but don't know if it's true, is that if you leave your Sense widgets running, LP just runs on top of it, so they are still running and eating battery. I've never removed all my Sense widgets knowing that I might revert back, but it's worth considering to see if you notice a difference.

Get home switcher.

Swithc to sense.

Save your scene.

Change to blank scene.

Then switch back to Launcher

You should see battery life improve.

So if I make this transistion too LP will sense be running and taking memory still?

THX

Idk but it probably will run but I read somewhere that you should save your HTC sense scene then go to clean slate and then back to launcher pro.

Btw does anybody know if there is a 1 touch on/off widget 4 wifi, gps, bluetooth, and hotspot like the ones in sense?

LP PLUS is definitely worth the buy, it's the first app I paid for on Android and I don't understand how someone would say it's boring and wants to go back to *yawn* boring Sense. Sense apps are nice, but LP plus sense are just as good and adds tons of customizations ontop of that, you don't have to buy the icons app, just go to LP's website and download icons and docks there and new ones get added everyday.
