Help Destination does not support enhanced messaging?

My friend tells me that she keeps receiving a message after texting me saying "Message delivered to <number> as plain text. Destination does not support enhanced messaging service"

Is there any fix for this? I don't want people to keep getting that message, nor do I like the idea that the phone doesn't support enhanced messaging service...

okay... I REALLY, REALLY need all your help on this one!!! I saw Saps link.. and thought... this is gonna really make me never look back on this phone!.... but, sadly.. there still is no solution!! I returned one SF... they said it was "defective" because of this very same thing.... I got a new one... and... SAME THING!! the link that Saps provided explained to a "T" precisely what is happening with me. This is really wrecking havoc with me (long story)... but... well... I just really want a solution!!! anyone????

Samsung Fascinate Known Issues document leaks Boy Genius Report

So I guess there's a known issue involving receiving EMS messages...the issue noted in that document is regarding incoming EMS messages being split into multiple parts. I'm guessing that and the error message on the other end are related.

This list has been out since the phone was released. A few issues were addressed in the recent OTA update and hopefully many others will be soon. This list is fairly benign compared to the known issues lists that come out with many phones.

So... what does everyone think the deal is with the whole EMS thing...texts getting split... unsupported "blah blah" even vz to vz (.... 99.9 and a half.... of people I contact are Verizon...and they get messed up... The beauty of texting to other VZ people has always been you can text almost endlessly.. with emoticons, etc., and have zero issues.. but with the SF.... it's like texting someone with an iPhone... argh!!! Anyone think this will be resolved at some point???

This is not and issue with this phone it happens with all phones under Verizon. It just that not all phone displace this message and its happens anytime a text message goes pass 160 char. But if you go pass like 320 char. it turns them in to an MMS. It has never been fixed since I can remember going back to my Touch pro 2.

Wrong. Windows mobile phones didn't support EMS and always had the 160 char. limit. All Android phones have worked fine with EMS and I've never had an issue until the I got the Fascinate. I'm sure it'll be taken care of eventually but it is very much the phone. Verizon supports EMS on almost all phones these days, if not all. I'm not sure about Windows Mobile now because I haven't used one in years.

Sorry but the Droid does this too. If you read what stated you would see what ment. Just cause it give this message it dont mean it doesn't go through it just means that it has to break it up it to more than one message. This a limitation by carrier not phone.

No, you're wrong. Verizon supports EMS, actually more than any other carrier I believe. I own a Verizon store. I've had the Droid Incredible and Droid X and neither one of these phones had this issues. Never once did anyone receive that message or did I receive the message that the message had been modified on those phones. I switched to the Fascinate on Friday and within an hour someone sent me a long message over 160 characters that was broken up and told me the message was modified. Both the Incredible and Droid X could send and receive messages over 160 characters (EMS) just fine. It is not a carrier limitation

I thought we were talking about intra-carrier, Verizon to Verizon. EMS is not supported between carriers. If it was from carrier to another the message would be broken up as stated on that page. From within Verizon to another Verizon as long as the phones support EMS then you will get it with no issues all in one message.

It also happens with Verizon to Verizon but it looks like its cause by "dumb" phone to smart phones or the other way around??

Like someone said in that thread maybe it was a limitation on the Eris with that very old version of Android. I know Verizon supports EMS within the network. No carriers support it outside their network from carrier to carrier. All I'm saying is it isn't a network limitation. If EMS isn't working within Verizon to Verizon it's some type of phone or software limitation on one of the phones.

You may be right but 3 OS doing it and not being fixed by now leaves me to believe it Verizon.

I can honestly say I've personally owned a Blackberry Storm, HTC Droid Incredible, & Motorola Droid X that did not have this issue. It's also not something that customers complain about to us if it is an issue. The only phones I've experienced it on are Windows Mobile phones and I believe maybe some older Blackberries, however I'm not 100% about those. I know the Storms and Curves don't have this issue.

Sadly... I found the answer to this... and it's not a key to solving it... it more resembles a padlock. I am totally bummed. I googled and searched yesterday until my eyes glazed over. I went on countless forums... The only comfort I received was that it was frustrating other people too.. and I was not crazy. Let me just premise all this with the fact that I only have myself to blame... if I had researched it prior I would have known! But I never dreamed that one of the most state of the art phones would not allow you to text to your hearts content... And even when I went into Verizon after the first few days of being perplexed by this... my garbled texts... split messages... error messages... They never ONCE said... oh this is the way it's gonna be... That would have been all it would have taken. I could have made a decision... but now I'm past my thirty days.

Bottom line: The Samsung Galaxy line does not support EMS (enhanced messaging service) nor does any android phone or smart phone for that matter. Texts that exceed 160+ will be split ... end of story... You will not be able to put little hearts... little happy things (or mad things) in there.. you will not be able to bold it, italic it, color it, "enhance" it in any way shape or form (to other multimedia and "dumb" phones). I researched the specs for all the android devices.. EMS was never among them. Yet on multimedia and "feature" devices, it was.

Many say... "so what"?? "what's the big deal"? "send the person an email" "CALL the person"?.. well... This may be too much information.. lol.. so you can stop reading if you don't want to hear it...Anyone that follows my stuff might recall that texting is my number one use of a phone. I am dating someone who lives far away and has a 1.5 hour commute via train...so this is when we would catch up.. morning & evening commute (it's rude to talk on the phone on a commuter train).. ... I persuaded him to ditch his carrier to Verizon as to enable us to text without his getting cut off. So everything worked like a charm....I had my lg dare... he had his "dumb" phone... Until my Dare just was getting on its last breaths... so it was time to upgrade... in came the SF... and the issue.

Can someone please explain to me WHY these smart phones would not provide an EMS experience??? And it doesn't appear that any updates are ever going to add it. I am dumbfounded.

gingergirl I dont think this will change anytime soon. But just to let you know it will send in one pcs after somany characters. You can also send larger texts as mms instead of sms.

When the i500 receives an extended message (EMS) , greater then 160 characters, it is broken into (at least) two segments. These usually arrive in the Inbox as &#8220;1/2? and &#8220;2/2?
Short term work around: There is no short term work around for this issue
Planned Resolution: A fix for this issue is under review for inclusion in a future MR.

I'm glad you're so sure but again, I don't believe that. All of my other Droids I've owned would receive long text messages over 160 characters without issue and without the message that the message was modified.

I just did some tests to prove my point. When sending a long text from my Fascinate to a Droid X the Fascinate automatically send it in two messages because it doesn't support EMS at the moment. I do not get any messages about it being modified because the Fascinate is sending it in two messages because it doesn't support the other.

Now when I go from the Droid X to the Fascinate it arrives in two messages but is modified from Verizon and gets the modified message. The Droid X is sending it out as one large message. If I send from the Fascinate to itself its still two messages upon arrival. If I send from the Droid X to itself its received as one large message. This proves my point that EMS is supported on Verizon and on smartphones. Verizon wouldn't have put out that documentation saying it could and would be fixed if they didn't support it.

my eris does not do this while my fascinate does...neither does my friends d2....it is for sure a problem with the fascinate...
