I wanted to know if there's a way to tether with the USB cable.

I currently have Velocity v0.03 w/ drellisdee's GNM Turbo 4 kernel.

The WiFi tether works fine but I want a way to tether with wired so it doesn't eat up my Ally's battery.

I seen this: android-wired-tether - Project Hosting on Google Code
But it requires RNDIS kernel (or whatever it is), and apprently the kernel I have loaded doesn't have this.

Any other options or is there I can get the RNDIS kernal on my Ally?

Thanks.

EDIT: Yes, I realize it requires an app. I'm asking for a free alternative and NOT a paid one.

EDIT 2: My question was answered. Can a mod please close this thread?

Well isnt just a simple solution to plug your phone into the usb port with a Power only usb cable. Thus not making it initialize with the computer but still recieve power. Or you could plug the phone to the wall with an extension cord LOL. I dunno that just seems logical to me. Have never tried it though. However I cant see why either solution would not work.

Hope this was helpful. :D

Now I have a question for you. LOL

SO I use PDA net and yes I popped down the 20 bucks for it. (LOVE IT BTW) However one of the cool things about it is that it does not draw data attention to Verizon wireless. So you can use your "unlimited" data package with no fear of a 2 gig limit. Now with all that being said. Does the Barnacle Wifi work that way as well?

I think you missed the point of my post. It wasn't to charge the phone, it was to provide internet to it via USB cable instead of Barnacle's Wifi Tether. I was talking about something like EasyTether or PDANet, but a free alternative.

Yes, but it eats power. :)

I just installed barnacle and had no problems with it working but it did heat my device up and had it on charge via usb. I am new to ad hoc networks and was curious about how far the connection would reach? Any ideas?

Another question off subject that I have been debating is if I should use velocity? I am stock with root access through universal androot and using the low memory killer app and I have been getting decent performance. Should I flash and what would I get from it?

Flashing velocity would get you well possibly more battery life, internal memory, more responsive phone. You should go to the velocity threads and read the original posts for features.
