Help Got a scratch on my captivate screen...

So today in glass design I was checking messages when a small ( when i say small i mean you almost can't even see it) piece of glass landed on my captivate. My captivate has the body glove, screen protector and screen protector.

When this little piece of glass got on the screen I tried to just rub it off but it cut through the screen protector and put a deep scratch on the actual captivate screen.

The screen protector I was using was gadget guard so I definitely don't recommend using that if you plan on it because of how weak it is. I'm also disappointed with the captivates screen. If a small piece of glass barely rubbing on it can leave a deep scratch, I can't imagine what keys could do.

You can't really see the scratch, but I'm just super ocd about it and can feel it on my finger every time it's in that area.

/end rant

This thread has changed my mind, it's reminded me how easy it is to get a scratch. No matter how careful one is. I'm going to cave, and put a screen protector on mine.

So I've placed an order for the kind I put on every phone of my wifes... if it will survive her purse, it will survive anything... :)

Trial and error with other protectors has taught me these are really the toughest. They are very clear, and best of all they are easy to install without any solutions or water. It's just rigid enough (yet thin) to not have air bubbles when applying it. An amazing product really.

The easiest way to scratch a piece of glass is with another piece of glass. Similar chemical make up, tendencies to bond to one another, and so on. This is a big reason why the IP4's back glass scratches so 'easily'...when people set them down on glass coffee tables, all the little dust particles sandwiched between the two pieces have nowhere to go so when the device is picked up, they rub the glass and scratch it. I suspect you had a similar experience with the Captivate's screen and the glass bit.

Hint:

The easier a screen-protector is to put on (as in, the softer, more-pliable it is), the less-protection it will have from blunt/sharp objects impacting it.

The soft ones are meant only as protection from slight swirl-marks from normal use. Not hard impact scratching.

The AT&T-branded protector is quite stiff, and while a bitch to put on should offer significant protection.

Is there a screen protector that protects against impact damage?

The reason I have a glove is not to protect the body of the phone, but to provide a shock absorbant and a bumper/buffer for the glass. I don't really care anymore if the body gets scratched.

I wish I didn't have to use a glove case.

The one I bought for mine was a pain in the rear to apply, but it seems sturdy. I use my phone to listen to music at the gym, then before I go to the steam room I throw it in my bag along with my keys. I've forgotten to take my phone out and when I get home the keys are on top of it, but there aren't any scratches on it so far. I've also accidentally put it into the "wrong pocket" along with keys or other objects that might seem like they'd scratch it up a bit.

My biggest complaint is the feel. It doesn't feel like it did when it was naked :( so I might eventually go back to that. Afterall, I have insurance on it.

Wrapsol | strongest, easiest and fastest-to-apply protection for Samsung Captivate (Galaxy S for AT&T)

Make sure you order the drop AND scratch protection version.

I highly recommend it. They have a lifetime warranty, too. Mine started peeling because I applied it a little close to the edge; they sent me a completely new kit within a few days. I just have to send the used pieces back to preserve the warranty.

Thanks for the info. I don't know if I will trust a screen protector alone. Do you know if anyone tested it?
