Yeah - those 6200 messages come from Verizon's end of things if you were using Backup Assistant, or possibly many other apps that are based on (Qualcomm) BREW.

That's exactly what happened to me as well. After I got my Eris, I could not figure out a way to turn it off using VZW's website... what I should have done was to uninstall VZW's Backup Assistant before I wiped the (old) phone and threw it away.

So, I called VZW on the phone, and naturally got somebody that had no idea what I was talking about. Eventually, though, the messages stopped.

I guess that one of the ways that a BREW-capable phone (read: dumbphone) can interact with the outside world is via SMS messages - on a phone that accepts them, it snarfs them up and you never even know you were getting "a text message". The Eris doesn't "speak BREW", so it just lets them pass through, and the handset user gets those strange 6200: messages.

Call VZW and ask them to turn it off; might work, and might not.

Just reply STOP to any of the messages, and they stop. Thats all you gotta do, you dont have to call verizon or anything. I had the same issue when i went from a env touch to a blackberry, it was annoying.

I don't know - Looks suspiciously like Big Brother, or the Dream Police monitoring your activities...

I just got about 10 of these messages in less than one minute. So I replied stop like you said, but they just keep coming and coming. Is everybody else getting these right now? They started at midnight and they're just flowing in.

After no help from in store or phone reps, I solved the problem on my own. Go into your "My Verizon" account, if you haven't already disable "Backup Assistant". And then enable "Backup Assistant". That simple. I think I toggled an option within the "Backup Assistant" options to not receive text notifications as well. Whatever it was it worked, no more annoying texts. So Verizon...are you hiring? :p
