difference between ADW Launcher and Launcher Pro?

Either one will let you customize your home screens in a variety of ways. They both offer free versions, but LauncherPro offers LauncherPro Plus (Paid) that will allow use of Sense type widgets. I would take a look at them both and try them both out to see what you like best. Just keep in mind that there are a ton of settings for each and little tweaks here and there can go a long way to improving things.

Both are almost equal except for LauncherPro's paid version (PLUS) offering extra widgets and popups, also LauncherPro lets you customize the dockbar and its icons unlike downloading premade themes for ADW.

Also LP Plus offers widget resize on the fly AFTER you place the widget, and up to 15 icon shortcuts in the dock.

i personally think pro runs smoother and i especially like its facebook widget. i had adw for a week and it its options menu somewhat irked me that and the fact it took away my 3d app drawer on my nexus. i got launcher pro and ive never looked back since i think ill keep it on all my future android phones too the options menu is simpler in alot of aspects. i have my 3d app drawe back and it all just works!!!
but i recommend getting the paid version

lancher pro>adw this is all just my opinion so try both and see what you think

oooooooh yeeeeahhh thats my favorite part the customizable dock. I decided to keep the 3 slot froyo layout but with much added customization. I added a custom froyo style dock bar that has a futuristic look as well as swipe actions for each of the icons that i also was able to change thanks to the launcher pro icon app. Launcher pro lets you switch between 3 sets of docks as well so even though i have the froyo 3 icon layout it actually equates to 9 quickly accessible apps that i can get to in a matter of 2or less swipes . my 3 main icons in the dock are the phone and app drawer the only difference in the set is the 3rd app which i switch up between the 3 docks while the other 2 apps remain constant. the other apps are the messenger, camera, and google gesture

yeah i think i'm liking launcher pro better than ADW...i'm a graphic designer so the ability to make my own icons/docks is pretty amazing :)

thanks a lot for the input guys!
Oh sweet, would you be able to make a dock that looks like this with a touch of transparency in the screenshot? It's 480x84, the one in the screenshot is a bit jagged due to icon size (that's from ADW).

sookster54 tried to short change LauncerPro. ;-)

You can have up to 30 icon shortcuts on the dock. 15 for each click and 15 more for each swipe!

I just found that out! I thought it was one swipe per dock, but it's one swipe per app per dock! lol.

I'm using ADW and it does seem to lag slightly compared to free version of Launcher Pro.

One thing I like about ADW is the abilty to place a 4 x 1 Gemini Calendar widget on a page but for it to just take up 1 x 1 space. It's away form me to show the date only that when pressed opens up the Gemini app.

Is this possible with Launcher Pro, because I can't see how with the brief look I've had

Yes it's possible but only in the paid version and the best part is you can stretch or shrink widgets AFTER you set them. Just tap on the widget and hold it till a bright yellow highlight appears over it and then resize to your liking

You'll need the paid version to resize widgets. What you do is put the widget on your home screen then hold it down to move it but drop it back in the same place and it will highlight orange and a resizing arrow will appear in the bottom right corner. Then just resize to your liking.

This works with any widget but some resize better than others. For instance I've combined the google search bar and the gesture search icon into a 1X4 row. Meaning my google search bar has been resized to 1x3 and the icon for gesture search is obviously 1x1

I tried LauncherPro last night and I'm disappointed. After having read how much faster it was than ADW I was expecting to see a difference. Nothing. I changed the default (Cyanogen) settings for ADW some time ago and it's fast. At least as fast as LauncherPro but it definitely *feels* faster.
Oh, and then I went to put my Beautiful Widgets clock/weather on my new LauncherPro home screen. I'd already adjusted the home screen columns to 5x5 and figured out that you can select and resize widgets directly on the home screen (great idea). BUT, only if you've got the blackmail (oops, I mean paid) version.

*uninstalled*

If you call paying someone for their hard work blackmail then I wish you luck in your life.

It's amazing how some people think a couple bucks is too much for an app. C'mon man! I've paid hundreds and even thousands for the software I use on my computer! Two or three bucks or even $10 is nothing!! Especially for something that is so useful and customizable. I guess when you can gets hundreds of apps for free, a few apps that are a few bucks must feel like a rippoff? I don't get it. It's like the people who will drive an extra couple blocks for gas that is 2 cents cheaper. It's not like any of the paid apps are going to prevent you from paying your bills, Sheesh people!
Just my 2 cents. :D
