Accessories Otterbox Defender Series?

Is anyone using one? I ordered one for my Desire and I am hoping it does not add that much more size to the phone. I still want to be able to keep it in my front pocket. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I also heard a comment that the screen protector made the touch screen less sensitive. Comments welcomed.

Thanks

I just got the Otterbox Commuter Series for my Desire. Doesn't add too much thickness, covers the headphone and microUSB ports as well. I don't think the screen protector affects sensitivity, been using it since day one

Well the difference between the Defender series and Commuter series is the Commuter series has a standard adhesive screen protector whereas the Defender series has a Plexiglas like film that is built into the case.

Here's a link to my Otterbox review for my Nexus One that I did a while ago:

http://androidforums.com/nexus-one/170839-quick-little-review-my-new-otterbox-case.html

It addresses some of the issues that I had with the case, but there aren't really that many. I also posted some (albeit crappy) pictures of my phone in the case so you can get an idea of the over all look of it.

Got mine last week and honestly I expected more.
The Black plastic parts shine and look cheap.
The rubber cover has micro lines to be connected and of course disconnects all the time.
The transparent plastic cover for the screen makes impossible to see the phone screen during the day.
For my $50 that is gone I would like to have $40 back.
Coming from Otter I was waiting for an one-piece rubber case and not a fragile cheap fat look that just killed my phone.

Perhaps you should have tried the Commuter series instead of the Defender series. If you were looking for just a rubber case, well you can find those just about anywhere. eBay has some pretty good deals on them.

Ordered my otterbox defender for desire on Monday. Fedex tells me it will arrive Friday ( I live in Australia). The reviews bar a few tell me its a really good case. I am worried now after a bit more research it will be cheap and crap. I really hope it is all a wanted as i was going to get a casemate one but opted for the supposed best quality case. Will give full review plus pictures on Saturday.

No way, Defender is the right choice once I am in construction. The fact is that the ruber parts disconnects every time I put the phone in my pocket. This is NOT a hardcore case and have clearly design mistakes.
I am completely unhappy with it and do not advise anyone expecting a rough case for construction or similar.

What do you mean construction? Are you saying you work in construction?

Yes I am a Project Manager and I work half time in the office and half on site. Just to be very clear, the rubber parts disconnects very easily just by pushing the volume buttom or pulling it from the pocket. It is a clear design mistake to have a "rough" case with so delicate connections.
The screen is almost impossible to see when outside even when you max the brightness (what sucks the battery). My case has only three weeks use and I hate myself for spending $50 on it.

Rubber disconnecting sounds like a bad case, can't see in sunlight is an AMOLED screen thing. As nice as they are, you really shouldn't be bringing a smartphone to a construction site. There are more basic, but infinitely more rugged phones like the one my girlfriend's dad uses. He's dropped it from the second story of a building and did no damage to it. Granted, it's only a flip phone from Motorola (with PTT), but it's more suited for this kind of environment.

Well, my first question to you is do you have one of these cases?

Yes Desire's screen is not the best but when you add a 2mm air space plus a 1mm plastic over it belive me, it get a lot worst.

..and watch because dust between the plastic and the screen can scratch your screen working against the protection factor. Keep the case clean inside if you don't want to damage your phone.

Despite the fact of using a smartphone in a rough site, well, if you buy something named Defender the least thing you should expect is to spend 30 sec fixing it before you turn your phone on.

I am still unhappy.

Update. I got a email back and they are sending me out the rubber outside piece. If that does not fix it I will get a new case. I will let you know if this resolves the issue.

I also contacted them and they were very kind in offering a new rubber part cover however what I fear most just happened.
I got a small scratch on my glass screen. The same scratch is on the inside of the plastic cover what makes me to believe that something that was in between caused the scratch (sand probabbly).
I am now not using the case anymore and buying a letter one.

They sent me a whole entire Defender case. I was shocked. I thought they were just going to send me the rubber piece. Take your phone to where you got it from for the scratch. They should be able to polish it out.

Thanks for the advice.
About the new case, keep us posted in a few weeks about the rubber parts.
I don't want to be too negative but knowing a little bit about industrial design I can see that either they have a design issue or the rubber density has to be recalculated.
