Help For those that have call quality issues..

It has nothing to do with any case. My call quality sucks with or with one and really looking into getting the x before my 30 days are up. Its a shame because I really love this phone.
There are many people having this issue but there is no fix in sight, it is what it is. So the hell with it, I'm frustrated because I don't know if I will be better off with the droid x. Does any on know if the 2.2 update will fix the call issues just a little bit? You see, this question has been asked many time but there is no straight answer. I went to the verizon storethe other day and called my friend from the x just out of curiosity and he told me I sounded 10 time better on the x than the fascinate. He said I sounded like I was enclosed in a sound proof booth. And the store was filled with noisy people. So whatever, just have to make the decision.

Andonakis,

Before you return it call *611 and tell them you are having issues with call quality and you want them to go through the internal setting with you. They will have to call you back on another phone to guide you through your Fascinate's hidden menus.

I did that and it worked like a charm. Perfect call quality (as close to perfect you can get on a cellular phone.)

I will do that and cross my fingers. I hope they can because I'm day to day with this thing and I will do anything to keep it before getting the x. Thanks.

Per that thread he has tried testing the sidetone adjustment but hasn't gotten it to stick yet. That's why I'm curious to see what the VZW reps say, maybe they know something Egg_Head doesn't.
Agreed. I've been thankful for the stuff egghead did give us but clearly there's even more in there. All I've done is turn off boot sounds and dropped the battery pop up. My SF's sidetone is not an issue for me but I know several of you have this issue

So I called verizon today and they said there is no such thing as internal setting and advised me to just get another phone.

So I called verizon today and they said there is no such thing as internal setting and advised me to just get another phone.

My wife and I both have SF's and both get poor call quality with any type of background noise. It is twice as bad when we are talking to each other. After reading through this thread I decided to call *611 and ask the tech to check the internal settings as was suggested here. He told me he has no idea what I am talking about. He said he can't find anything about the SF's having a poor call quality issue and he doesn't know of any hidden menus that can be tweaked.

We also have an issue with the sound of the ring when we make calls, which I haven't read anything about in the forum. When we dial a number the ring sound is garbled. Has anyone heard of this issue before?

New to the forum and I've learned a lot over the last few days. After reading the above post by Andonakis, I thought I would throw in my two cents worth since I more or less got the same responsse from tech support.

The Droid X is looking more and more appealing to me at this point. I'm just day to day with the SF. It's a shame because I love it. The reason why some people say their voice quality is excellent is because they are never around places with background noise, like a football game or a restaurant. Try it and see what others say on the other end. Some work some don't. Mine don't.

Yeah the noise cancellation is a bummer on this phone. Today was actually the first time I really noticed it. My girlfriend (who also has a SF) was at a starbucks and I could hear just about every sound in the background. It's not "horrible," but certainly pales in comparison to Motorola and other phones with noise cancellation. Still, not a deal breaker for me. Besides, if you're on a bluetooth headset most of the time, it's a non-issue.

Being on my third replacement SF, (1st had defective buzzing, second VZW lady dropped and cracked housing) I can say I love the phone. But as indicated here, sound quality is a persistent issue for some. The feedback in my ear, and the constant complaints from the other end of the call....

I was going to box the thing up and return it this morning. One some forum (maybe here) someone suggested sticking a tiny black piece of tape with a pinprick in it over the mic hole. I removed the backplate and did this.

My stress levels have dissipated, and the call quality has been MUCH improved. I also removed the battery during this operation which took 3 min.

This was a last ditch effort, and believe me I'm not thrilled about the situation, but it seems I may be keeping this thing after all. No more complaints either.

UPDATE:

Returned phone - loved it, but I couldn't deal with the tincan sounding earpiece. :(

For anyone with call quality issues, check this out and let me know how it works for you. ;)

http://androidforums.com/fascinate-..._secret_code-string-revealed.html#post1776132

I've gotten some really great advice on these forums and it's a little scary how trusting I am of you guys. LOL. I'm surprised I haven't bricked my phone by now.

Anyway, I tried this and it didn't seem to have any adverse effects on my phone. So that's good. I'll try to test it later with my wife's SF also to see how it works.

My question is if EVRC-B is supposed to be so much better why wouldn't they have implemented it originally? Is it a network bandwidth restriction kind of thing?

I did the EVRC-B fix to my droid X and its light years better on call quality...just a note I didnt need such a fix for my Fascinate, it had pretty good call quality out of the box, however it was a little suspect in a noisy environment. Can't win these days with any phone...its an imperfect device made by an imperfect person!

Well after getting my wife the same phone, this was the first time being the person on the other end. Sounded like she was in a hurricane with the wind being picked up.

Right after I went on to Samung's website to find out if there is a noise canceling mic and whether its a known issue. Here is the transcript.

info: Please wait for a Samsung Agent to respond.
info: You are now chatting with 'Stella'
Stella: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: Hello. I was wondering if the Samsung Fascinate has a noise-canceling mic? Reason I'm asking is the call quality is poor when talking outside.
Stella: I understand that you wish to know about the Noise-cancelling Mic feature on the Samsung Fascinate.
Stella: Am I correct?
Visitor: Correct
Stella: Thank you for the confirmation.
Stella: Unfortunately, there is no noise-cancelling Mic on Samsung Fascinate.
Visitor: That is unfortunate.
Visitor: Thanks
Stella: Do you have the Noise-Cancelling Headphones.
Stella: Do not turn the volume up to block out noisy surroundings. If you choose to listen to your portable device in a noisy environment, use noise-cancelling headphones to block out background environmental noise. By blocking background environment noise, noise cancelling headphones should allow you to hear the music at lower volumes than when using earbuds.
Visitor: That am I aware of. The problem is any slight noise is heard by the caller. ex: TV, wind
Visitor: The issue is the mic being overly sensitive to sound. Is this a know issue with the phone?
Stella: No, there are no records of such issue with this phoen.;
Stella: phone*
Visitor: Ok. Thank you for your help. Hopefully you can log this issue because I know I'm not the only one with this complaint.
Stella: I will be right with you.
Stella: Sure, thank you for bringing this to our notice.
Stella: I will definitely forward this to my concern department.
Visitor: Thank you
Stella: You're welcome. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
Visitor: No, that is all.
Stella: It was a pleasure assisting you. Thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. If you have a minute, please click on the blue “X close” button to receive a transcript of your chat and fill out a brief survey to help us serve you better. Have a wonderful day!
info: Chat session has been terminated by the Samsung Agent.
