Help Phone keeps shutting off

Well good news is I woke up this morning to the update!! Sweet...Or so I thought, Long story short I let it do it things while I was getting ready this morning (30min) and it seemed to work fine (Not 100% sure, wasn't really looking at my phone while driving), then all of a sudden on my ride to work it caught my eye and reset itself, No biggie, then again and again and again...and you guessed it AGAIN!! it won't stop resetting itself! I tried to take out the battery but that didn't work and I'm not going to do the "hard reset" until I show Verizon what it's doing....So has anyone else had this problem after receiving the newest update?

Hmm...my phone does this too. Usually when I'm on a call (I'll be in the middle of the call when everything cuts off and i see the white HTC - quietly brilliant screen). I actually have titanium backup, but my phone started doing this even before I rooted. I wish I knew what the problem is....it's happened twice now when I've been talking to a patient (on-call). It's terrible having to keep the patient (who is usually very anxious to begin with- for good reason)waiting in the dark for 2-3 minutes while the phone finishes booting up so I can call them back. That's really my biggest beef with the phone...if anybody finds the solution, i'd be super-grateful.

My phone has been doing this more and more lately! Did it like 3 times three days ago.

So two days I uninstalled Titanium Backup and it hasn't powered off since. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's solved.

Update: Phone still shuts off by itself, randomly.

I just deleted Setcpu, I don't use it anyways. So I'm going through and deleted non-used apps one at a time and see what happens.

Yeah, I've had the same problem for a while now. It used to do it a lot, I rooted, it stopped, and now it's starting up again.

Seeing all the problems the refurbs are having, I think I'd rather stick with this Eris, so if anyone finds out what's causing this, let me know.

I don't have titanium, so I can rule that out.

Mine did it again last weekend, when i was talking to my mother. As I mentioned before, this problem pre-dated root, which means I don't think titanium backup or setcpu are the culprits. For me, this only happens (or i only notice it!) when I'm on a phone call...wonder if it has to do with something derailing the phone app (i.e. a notification comes in, phone doesn't know what to do with it during a call, so the whole darn thing crashes). I agree that, with all the refurb problems on the board, i'd rather stick with this phone, but gosh - this problem is annoying.

Even stranger is mine has never done it while I was on a call. It always does it while the phone is sleep (either in my pocket, or laying on the table). And yep, I agree now, don't think root is the problem. I'm almost at wits end. THIS, is the only issue I've had with this phone in months. I just wish I knew of a solution.

Mine has started doing this as well. It has been doing it more and more lately. I've never had it happen on a call, but just sitting in my pocket. I'll pull it out and its off.
Its never done it when its not on the charger either, but last night it reset itself, which is different than normal. Usually it just shuts off and doesn't come back on. I just rooted yesterday, so maybe it has something to do with the reset.

Finally found out the reason, after needlessly deleting several apps. :(

My battery is loose. Verizon said all they can do is send me another Eris. I'm a little upset about that one since my phone has been fine otherwise.

Bummer. Mine has been doing it lately too. Only when lying flat on a table (face down). It has always been plugged in when it happens. Makes it useless as an alarm clock.

I'm going to try putting it face down now (not connected to the charger) and see if it happens again. Maybe turning it face down causes the battery to lose contact?

What about a little piece of a toothpick, or paper or something like that stuck in above the battery to keep the contacts down and tight? Just be sure and use something nonconductive in case it gets loose behind the battery cover - wouldn't want to cause a short.
I would honestly rather try something like this, instead of getting a replacement. I'll tinker with it when I get home and see what I can manage.

I had the same problem and traced it to a loose battery. I hopefully solved it by cutting a small piece of a buisness card and slipping it between the battery and case. I folded a piece over the battery so that it is easily removed if I need to pull the battery. So far, it hasn't shut off since then.
