Please no privacy complaints... My 13 year old daughter now has a captivate to match my own. I am new at this and frankly, got these 2 phones so I can keep track of her whereabouts. She is at a critical age and unfortunately has been making some bad choices as of late. it is just the two of us and this may help me avoid a potential disaster. Are there recommended apps that will work on the captivate to provide me with simple real time tracking of her (phone) and do so quietly in the background? I know she wont go anywhere without it...

Not a privacy complaint but if you do it and she finds out, she'll hate you for it. But that is like saying the sky is blue. There is the Google Latitude functionality, you could use that. I'd recommend having her buy into the idea though. I found this on the market, 'it can't be uninstalled by a thief' or presumably your kid.

Thank you for the thought. I dont do this lightly. Id rather her be upset with me and alive than any seriously possible alternatives.

Isnt there an app I can install on her phone which by a simple discrete text or something placed from my phone with the same app can punch up her locality on google maps? A neighbor suggested there was but she didn't know the name...

If your kids don't hate you at least once in their lives, you've done something wrong. I'd do the same thing if I were you.

Latitude can do this. You just need to have her phone long enough to send a confirmation request from your phone to her phone and accept it if you don't want her to know about it. Although, at least with my teenage son, the fact that he knows I have eyes on him no matter where he is tends to prevent him from making those bad choices, so there could be some benefit to her knowing this is on her phone.

Either way...good luck.

This is so true.

Just another motherly support vote - my kids knew I watched them, as I told them, yes, I have eyes in the back of my head - what they didn't know is I had a key logger program for AIM (this was before every kid had a cell phone). Fortunately they were good boys despite what was going on around them. I didn't have to come down on them too hard for much of anything, thankfully. But it is worthwhile to keep a close eye on them, tools like the Captivate can be of real assistance to a single mom.
