Might be old news. UK Release Date

(although I do like the look of the new Win7 mobiles that are being advertised!)

My advice, don't get an SGS unless they get all the issues sorted - or just get the Desire HD ! (presuming that HTC produces a better product than Samsung?!)

WP7 - I've played with the O/S and I'm not impressed. To be honest the browser is the biggest killer, it's based on IE7.....

On the quality of HTC products. I know a lot of people with the original Desire and the original Dream/G1 who are very happy with it. I've also had an HTC Magic that was surprisingly nice. Generally speaking (Hero aside) their software support for android in terms of fixes/updates has been very good.

When I had this whole mess this morning with T-Mob they told me Monday the 18th as well,I'm thinking just some people in customer services are too wary to give out a date incase they get people ringing back saying you said the 18th,were is it!!! It's not T-Mobs fault it is late, they get it when HTC sends it out,not when T-Mob decide,I'm sure if it was up to T-Mob they would sell it today if they could. If you read what happened to me they was pretty helpful, giving me money off my bill for the whole sending me the wrong phone, apologising, making sure they pay the postage for me to send the normal Desire back, the box for postage is being sent to me,etc. I generally found them okay. I've been hunting this phone for ages now and heard millions of dates, everyone just needs to calm down and it will be out when it is out. HTC said to today there is no delay, google didn't support the theory that the phone failed a "test" but nor did they deny it. If you want the phone so bad you will be like me and just wait. I can't imagine 3 will give you 3gb of data allowance as well like T-Mob

Agreed!.

I was pretty happy with 3 in the 2 years or so I spent with them.

The only thing I would point out is that you only get data coverage on their 3G masts, not on Oranage mastes (where it is a GPRS signal)

This eventually lead to me leaving them, went to GiffGaff (O2 Coverage) Value and coverage is great, as ist customer service. But the O2 speed is a lot slower than 3's, hence me putting them near the bottom of my list when it came to taking out my contract

I don't put my choices in terms of speed, I put it down to whoever's cheapest..I try to Avoid the virtual networks, as the priority is usually lower on the network, but if I have to, I go for whoever is cheapest :)

My wife has a SGS - it is dreadful ! It seemed ok at first, but now she has had it a few weeks she is regretting it. Its got a great screen, but that seems to be the only good thing ! Its very laggy, GPS is rubbish, wifi connection is rubbish, build quality is rubbish, their support is rubbish, the PC software Kies is worse than rubbish.... all in all, its.... rubbish ! I was going to get one but as she acted as my beta tester, I am now hoping to get the Desire HD (and its a bigger screen, so one-upmanship and all that lol) , hopefully when it gets released (although I do like the look of the new Win7 mobiles that are being advertised!)

It hasn't (Galaxy S) sold 5 million units for nothing though has it.

From what I've seen the OS looks very responsive and organised. HOWEVER. Its far from a finished product. No silverlight support, No flash support, No memory card slot.

The biggest issue for me is with being a Linux user, I would have to have a Windows partition to install Zune to manage the device..urgh.

Give it 18 months and we will see where we stand :).

I have owned a Hero for 11 months now and I must say I love it, however, cracks are starting to show with it, especially with the lower half of the screen to stop responding.

The biggest gripe about HTC is how they update Sense. I know this sounds daft but everytime a new Android firmware is released, HTC take an age to integrate sense into it by which that point theres updates for the firmware itself.

Alameals - there is no official 2.2 update for the sgs. Samsung have failed to deliver it. There is no current official eta. It has been suggested this will fix the GPS (and other) issues but Samsung have not promised this. They're beyond awful.

Spencer - About the hero, I meant they hadn't done great on the update front for it. The desire however seems to have been handled better.

WP7, I don't think you'll see silverlight in the browser any time soon, if ever. A subset of the silverlight APIs is already available in WP7 for application development. It is a slick looking ui but it's not that intuitive and I couldn't live with the browser.

I've heard a lot of Galaxy S problems, such as GPS have been fixed with Android 2.2 update, has she updated to it yet?

T-Mobile was supposed to release the 2.2 end of last month but nothing came to it from what I can make out.

As I said, give it 18 months and then take a look at Win Phone 7, by this point it will give the whole market a clear insight to its developments and opinion.

Browser wise, IMO there's nothing really wrong with it. IT works. People appear to forget quite easy that this is effectively a portable browser. It's not going to compare to your desktop.

Sammy are not a bad brand, as I say, they ain't sold 5 million galaxy s models for nothing. Every handset has issues, Apple with the attenna and now craking cases, HTC with the AMOLED shortage and some non responsive screens on hero, Samsung with the GPS, etc...Nothings perfect.

Was already covered here in the news section.

If the 22 Oct is true, that's not bad. I ordered with MPD on 8/10 so the second batch may even come out before the end of October, which I'll be happy with

I will probably be in the 2nd batch too as I ordered on 03-10-2010....MPD did state they hope to get them out to customers before the end of the month which is a good sign, but end of the day, it depends how much stock they have managed to gather together :)

Looks like it happened to someone else apart from me, I posted over on the T-Mobile forum what happened, someone just replied and said he had the same thing happen to him with the Desire getting sent out, that poor sod missed his mail though and went chasing it to his local post office and got all the way home and realised he has the normal Desire, gutted
