ANyone know why pics take so long to load from the SD card?

Noticed this with my Blackberry too with SD card...

I'd like a technical reason for this. It takes so long to load everything compared to my ipod touch. I have 300+ pics on here and i feel like its impossible to show anyone a pic bc it takes so long to load and find...

Devices like the iPhone and iPod Touch do not use the kind of memory that a removable SD card represents. Instead, they use on-board/embedded NAND flash memory. This integration of flash memory is intrinsically faster. The off-setting value though is that it isn't removable. For a long time, too, it was expensive to include due to manufacturing. However, with the boon of the iPhone, it's resurrected the viability of NAND memory. No matter what though, SD memory will generally be more useful and cheaper if not a bit slower. The question you have to ask is: Would you rather have removable, interchangeable memory? Or something fast but locked in?

Seriously, I mean what's the transfer rates for these micro-SD cards? In the 4-5 mb/sec, maybe just under 10 mb/sec? I think the embedded NAND memory transfer rates are just under a 100 mb/sec, with Intel's fastest NAND reaching 300 mb/sec. I'm not sure of the Samsung chip that's in the iPhone. There's a reason why Apple is hording all of the NAND chips.

Once they've all been cached any subsequent viewing of the gallery should be pretty instantaneous. If yours doesn't load like this video I posted in another thread, perhaps there is a problem with your Droid.

It certainly wouldn't hurt but in that video I was using the card that came with the Droid. I personally see no reason to spend more money on a faster card until I perhaps fill that one up.

It's likely that you will experience some gains. I believe the card we have stock is a Class 2. They go up to Class 6. But it's only 3X faster. Unlikely that you'd notice the difference. Like the other poster said, once cached, it should be plenty fast. I wouldn't waste your money. It's really inconsequential.
