Ive been using my OEM charger cord untill the other day it fell off my desk while charging and bent the tip. I started using another cheap 99 cent ebay cord with a blackberry logo on it and it seems like my phones never charged slower. So I installed current widget and it seems to be charging at 280MA while the OEM cord charges at 380MA. Does anyone know where I can get a new cord that charges just as good as the OEM one for cheap?

I installed that widget and got the following results. Battery at 75%.

Stock cable in PC usb port - 290mA
Stock cable in wall adapter - 562-890mA (varies each time I plug it in)
$2 cable in PC usb port - 306mA
$2 cable in wall adapter - 730-768mA
Stock cable in 1 amp 12v car adapter - 336mA
Old 1 amp Motorola car adapter - 388mA

They all varied somewhat each time but the stock cord in the wall adapter varied the most. Not a big enough sample to mean anything. But does this mean that a 1 amp car adapter really isn't needed? I have a 500mA hour one that I'll have to give a try.

Funny you should post this. Today I forgot my HTC micro USB cable that came with my EVO. I had another cable lying around in my car that came with a $4 car charger that I got at Walmart. The car charger croaked a few days after I bought it but I kept the cable as a backup in case I ever needed it. Well the "backup" cable couldn't even connect my EVO to my laptop, I mean it was not recognized at all. Once home I plugged in the HTC cable and it worked immediately. As you said, not all micro USB cables are the same.

yeah all my usb cables work but some wont do data and some wont charge fast enough, I ended up finding this guy on ebay selling OEM cables and I bought a few for 4 bucks each

I bought a few cheap MicroUSB cables online before I the release of the Thunderbolt in preparation for my iPurge. I'm using the Current widget and estimate I'm pulling a full 1000mA on the stock (based off of current pulled when unlugged plus current received when plugged, don't forget when charging, the cable is also powering the phone). But I get about 200-300mA less when using the cheapy cables. Anybody have links to cables they've had better luck with? BTW, I LOVE the Freedom of Android.

Radioshack five foot cord ROCKS. I mean it charges my phone really really fast. The oem cord is shite. It shorted my sound card but thats another story. Totally totally recommend the radio shack charger.
