Help List of Issues I've found with my Droid Incredible

Smooth thanks for your input, but quite frankly it doesn't matter to me any longer what reviews the INC has received. I was rooting for it as one of the first owners as it received awards from C-NET, Endgadget, etc. for being the best Android phone out there. I told everyone about it and loved owning it. I am well aware. But, that doesn't change what my overall experience has been and the issues I've experienced. I still think its a good phone, but has more issues than its worth...TO ME.

Intelligent people make purchases based on their needs and wants, as well as reason and previous users opinions. Not blind bias that a phone is the best because you say so. That's how iPhone fanboys act and it doesn't need to be like that with Android too.

Ya know the beauty of my opinion, it can't be wrong because it's my opinion. This little Android website isn't the end-all be-all of Android, there are many other sites out there as well as forums on VZW, HTC, etc with people complaining about problems similar to mine.

Be honest with yourself, you're saying that others aren't having the same problems as me. Well, maybe so in regards to the call and texting issues, I hadn't seen them posted anywhere yet either. That's why I wanted to do it. But, the other things noted as well as many other issues have plagued the the INC for a considerable number of people. I'm doing a lot more good trying to inform people of my real life experience with the phone than you all bashing me for posting it. Thanks to those who tried to add something to the thread, that's what great about these forums.

Nowhere in my post was I trying to bash you. And I was telling you to read user reviews in the sites I mentioned. I respect your opinion but in the end that's all it is and mine is different from yours. Based off of the user reviews I mentioned, you are still in a very small but very vocal minority. The only issue you mentioned that could be considered widespread is battery life but if you think you are going to find a smartphone with significantly better battery life, I think you are going to be dissapointed. I respect your opinion and I completely understand that the dinc isn't the phone for you, but to try to warn others away from the dinc on the basis of your opinion is wrong, especially when you are in a proven minority. I really hope that the x lives up to your expectations. You deserve to be happy with the phone you use, as does everybody. The dinc just happens to be the phone I am happy with.

I'm glad we've found some common ground.

Indeed. We are on the same team here, more or less. I still stand by HTC 100% and don't appreciate people bashing the brand, but I can tolerate it a little more if the basher sticks with Android.

Now, two quick things before I (hopefully) bow out of this:

Ya know the beauty of my opinion, it can't be wrong because it's my opinion.

Your original post does not come off as an opinion. In addition to the fact this didn't warrant a new thread when you had one about these problems already going, I found this sentence in your original post ridiculous: "I just want people who are considering this phone to know what they're getting into."

You stated, as fact, that those who get an Incredible will suffer from the same problems that you did. That is simply not true. Possible? Sure. But that is the case with any phone, including your soon to arrive DX.

The majority of Incredible owners don't experience all of the problems you did, let alone just one. The reason I have an issue with you talking about the Incredible so negatively and trying to worry others they will without a doubt share your pain is I fully support HTC. My wife has an Eris. I have an Incredible. My dad has an Incredible. HTC has been good to all of us and it deserves my support. I wish you the best, but I am not going to sit quiet when you make blanket statements that are simply not true. Again, possible? Yes. A guarantee as you assert? Not even close.

Poke around the forums for any device. You will see tons of threads with problems. That is how technology works. It's often the luck of the draw whether your device is problem free or not.

And finally, your original post said the following, "As much as I grew to love Sense, I really think it's the stem of a lot of the software issues."

If that were the case and you did love the Incredible, you could have either for free, or for $3 to get the bonus features, installed LauncherPro. It is fantastic and might've solved your problems. Honestly, Motoblur is not highly regarded itself and you should seriously consider LP+ on your DX anyway. It is simply amazing software. WidgetLocker is awesome as well.

Once again, best of luck with the DX. Just please refrain from scaring off would-be Incredible buyers just because you had a bad experience. Sharing your experience is one thing. Making it sound like your experience is guaranteed to be another's is simply not fair.

Forgot a big one: Can't change the password on a Google Apps account on the Incredible, need to remove the Google Apps account and re-add. Can't remove a Google Apps account without a factory reset. WHOOPS! Google forgot the door on this mansion they built.

For those that think I'm kidding, try it yourself but only at your own risk. Don't blame me for whatever happens. Remember, this is for Google Apps not your standard Google account. That's right, this harebrained mistake affects Google's premium paid service.

Isn't that true on all Android devices though?

On </=2.1 devices you can delete the account and re-add it.

So then it's not a "problem" only experienced on the Incredible, but rather on all 2.2 devices.

You saying, "Forgot a big one: Can't change the password on a Google Apps account on the Incredible..." is very misleading, as it comes off as though no other phone has this "feature."

I've seen this and it scares me a little. I absolutely know the X (nor any Android phone) will be completely problem free.

No need to be scared by it, as Motorola has recognized the issues and plans to fix them. I'm sure they will. Sometimes it's nice to actually see the occasional screw up when the company admits the problem and comes up with a quick solution. It builds confidence that there is strong support for the device. Better than when the company tells you you're doing something wrong, like, oh, I don't know, say actually holding your phone improperly...

Agreed, it's still a problem that affects the Incredible. I wouldn't call it a feature though, since many companies (mine included) require a monthly/weekly password change on their Google Apps account. Can you imagine doing a factory reset every week? That's a feature I wouldn't touch with a 10' pole.

I agree. That's why I used the quotes. I can't imagine why Google thinks requiring a factory reset is a good idea. Then again, Google also doesn't think we should be able to download attachments in Gmail, so what do I know?

You're kidding me, that Gmail attachment thing is "working as intended"? No wonder I wasn't getting any answers in the Gmail mobile help forum. Do you know if preview is borked too? I can't preview any of my attachments and I'm using the 2.3 app. I used to be able to at least preview attachments, prior to that wonderful auto update.

So are these "features" working as intended?
- No copy/paste in Gmail app (used to be able to workaround this by hitting reply)
- No previewing/downloading attachments

If anyone can confirm these are indeed "features", please let me know. I have always assumed the Gmail app was broken and these items would be fixed. We moved to Android-based phones specifically because we expected (rightfully so) that Gmail on Android would behave almost identically with Gmail on the web.

If Google will never allow previewing/downloading of attachments, or the ability to copy text in Gmail, there's very little reason for our company to be using Android phones. These actions are intrinsic to mobile email, regardless of which service you use.

Guess I've never tried copy/paste but I have no problem previewing, downloading or even saving documents, pics, etc from Gmail v2.3

Can you download PDF's? The download button doesn't even show up for me, and 90% of the attachments we get are in PDF.

My preview works, but I only see Download as an option for images. PDFs and .docx/.xlsx/etc only give me the option to preview, and those are typically the ones I need to download. I use Blackmoon AttachSave Lite to download documents, but it doesn't read their filenames and it's clunky. It's better than nothing, but this feature should, without question, be built into Android's Gmail app. It's borderline offensive that it's not.

Iowa, can you actually download docs with the Gmail app? I thought I had the latest version and I can't.

My copy/paste works fine, it's just difficult since the text is so small and my fingers cover a lot of the text I am trying to see when highlighting to copy.

OK, I can't copy any text in my Gmail app, except email addresses, URL's and phone numbers.

I can view and then save docs with Quickoffice and can view only with Docs To Go (free).

I can only view PDF's (might be able to save pdf's with Docs To Go paid version, not sure cuz they want too much for it for me to try). I can save jpeg, png with no problem. Just press the download button and use pic viewer. Can even forward/share them at that point.

I love my DInc, even though I've had some problems with it. Yeah, the battery sucks, so for about $20 I bought two more and a wall charger...problem solved! I've had the "Low on Memory" in the past and I've had to reset twice, but not since the Froyo update. However, since the Froyo update, the stock e-mail now deletes my mail off the server even though I have it set not to (HTC wrote me back and ARE aware of the Froyo problem).

I've check around, but what I would love input on is third party mail clients that work for the DInc. I've tried K9...and I can receive my POP mail just fine...but just cannot send it (no matter what port I seem to try), and K9 doesn't give me errors. Until they update Froyo, any good ideas on a mail app? Thanks!

I don't think you should feel lucky, I'm pretty sure most of us don't have these issues. There is a reason the dinc is widely regarded as one of the best android phones by most tech websites out there. I guess if a person is too scared to root though, the x might be for them. There's not much to do with a rooted x anyway. I forgot though, sense is way better than motoblur. I guess size would be the only thing that someone could consider better. I think the x is too big though, just my opinion.

I don't have any of the listed problems. I have a stock Incredible with Android 2.2 ( I don't like to root) and I don't use a task killer (that caused a LOT of problems). I LOVE my Incredible!!
