I ended up doing it manually through an APK. Don't have the link here at work, but it was on xda somewhere.

I have yet to receive any updates OTA on this device. Waited for a week and a half for the system updates before I finally updated manually, too. I'm pretty sure Sprint considers San Diego Mexico and ignores us. :p

It may have been a hot update over the air, but it actually was an apk change. Search around on xda-developers.com for it as I found it one of the rom forums for the epic 4g. But you do need to either get it over the air or adb push the vendor.apk file to /system/app.
Do you have a link? The source I quoted above said there was no OTA update.

I have not heard of an update that is done over the air without the user's knowledge or intervention. If this is the case, then it is troubling, because I do not want my phone to be updated without my knowledge or consent.

Here is the link: [ROM] 10/14 Apophis Beta DI18 - TouchWiz Eclair for the Minimalist - xda-developers

You need to be registered on xda-developers.com in order to download the file. The file is the vendor.apk at the end of the original post.
Maybe I'm thick in the head today or something, but that looks like a custom ROM that someone put together, and not an offical .apk update from Android. The vendor.apk could have been stripped out from the DI18 update...

I did not get an OTA update or anything, just did the standard DI18 ROM install last week, before this new market announcement, and I have all the new features.

Am I missing something?

Look at the bottom of the original post on that link (which is a link to a custom rom, but that is irrelevant). There is a download link for vendor.apk which is unrelated to any specific rom. It's the only place I've seen the apk available.
I see that but how is anyone sure that it is some new version of market that is separate than what came with the DI18 update?

Because I used that very apk and I was already on a DI18 rom which had no changes to do with the market. If you don't believe me, check it out for yourself. Can't hurt.
What version of the market do you have?

I didn't install any additional .apk file, and I'm on market v2007, which I believe is the latest.

If you're on the same version, then this .apk file is most likely not an add-on to the stock DI18 market version.

From what I can gather based on the fact that I had the DI18 update, never got the market update, and then adb pushed that .apk file, is that the market update was a forced update to vendor.apk. Basically google sent down an updated vendor.apk that you did not have to install, and had no choice in the upgrade.
