I apologize first and foremost if this has been answered previously, I am not trying to harass the community by asking a F.A.Q. I'd simply like some help figuring out a potential solution to my problem.

Moving on, my problem has to do with "Call-History". What I've noticed is that while I can see the phone-numbers of people in my contacts list people whose number I do not have show up as, bear with me, "Unknown".

When I navigate to "Call History", (Say a friend whose number I don't have calls me). I can't add their number to my contact list. This is an increasingly frustrating problem for me. I'll navigate to the "Call History" screen and find that there's no way for me to identify what numerical-phone number called me.

There will simply be the designation; "Unknown", while holding down on the entry (while the time/length of the call can be viewed). There is no way to add nor even view, the again, [Unknown] number to my contact list.

Phones are ultimately communication devices, if I can't find a solution, well, I'm convinced that I'm going to have to down-grade from a smart-phone to something capable of recording and adding unknown numbers...

Again, I sincerely apologize if this question plagues the HTC Droid Eris forum like pestilence or the plague, but I'd sincerely like some help dealing with this nuisance. I appreciate the time and effort you all have elected to help me deal with this problem.

I don't think it's a problem with the phone. I believe that the caller has the Caller ID blocked.

I've never had such an issue with numbers that are not in the list. Try calling your cell from a known number that is not in your contacts and see how it behaves.

good idea, I'll definitely try calling from an unknown number or deleting a contact and trying it to see how it responds.

Unlike other responders, I totally understand your problem....Do this: Firmly press down on the Unknown caller number for one second and then let go. Then a screen will pop up to allow you to save it as contact and further edit on it. Do not just lightly touch that unknown number. Light touching will trigger calling that number. Only firmly pressing down for one second will allow you to save it as contact.
