How is everyone getting different phones?

So I'm on my EIGHT droid eris. Really frustrating at this point to keep getting the trackball issue. I cant tell you how many verizon reps I've talked to for countless hours trying to just get a different phone without using my parents upgrades. I was so close to having a droid 2 sent to me but they didnt have a full accessory package (no battery cover). I initially denied the offer for whatever stupid reason I was thinking. Right after I hung up the phone I found battery covers for that phone for 5 bucks... ugh! So I called back and of course I get a different rep telling me that conversation is no where in their records... Never could get anyone else to offer me anything. I've even gone down to corporate and got nothing. I'm beyond frustrated with this whole situation, all I want is a phone that will WORK. Anyone care to share how they convinced verizon to send them a different phone?

Yea i showed the guy what was wrong with my phone (trackball scrolling left....) he took my phone, instantly it did it. then he acted as if nothing happened and said he wasnt going to be able to do anything. Good thing i brought my charger. Plug that in. wiggle it up and down and it ALWAYS goes to the left.

Then he reluctantly sent me ANOTHER refurb

This is how I switched from Eris to Droid1 back in July.

So after reading this thread yesterday, I decided I'm gonna try to get them to offer me an equal to/or lesser value phone to the eris. Here's where it starts: I called Verizon this morning and the first dude i talked to said i have the option to switch devices after my (current) 3rd replacement is still screwing up after dreadful troubleshooting. So i chose that option and he said only the store does it though. So i catch the bus to Verizon to get there and have the guy tell me that promo is a year old. I said "so the guy on the phone doesnt know that?" and hes all like "well hes just customer service but we're the store." .... Are you kidding me? I said "well you guys should communicate considering you work for the same company before the cs reps hype people up about the promo" he said "well anyway we can only replace your phone with the same model unless you want to call htc about it" and then hands me htc's number. I rudely walked away from his smart a** and threw the sticky in the trash before leaving the store (yea im bad a**! lol) I get home after waisting 2 tokens and started calling verizon. I told them what happened earlier and he also said thats not their policy anymore and emails the last guy i talked with to call me back. Never did. Rep #3 - she also said they wouldn't do it and was all like irritated that i asked. So while she was talking i just bung on her and went to the next rep. Rep #4 - she was nicer and tried to help me get in contact with the first guy but again, he never called. Rep #5 - He seemed nice but he wanted to check something with my phone and asked for another number to call me on. He never called. (i think i gave him the wrong no. by accident. oh well... NEXT!) Rep #6 - this rep handed me over to tech support after i told him the whole 411. (by now im pissed!) The tech was the guy thats hard to find in situations like this. He also had an eris. Told him how i did everything and this is my 3rd replacement. He still tried a little TS but finally afterwards, he was told by rep 6 that i wanted to get an alternate replacement. I also let him know that it isnt fair how the people who abused the promo messed it up for honest customers and that i needed it really bad. He checked my account and seen that i pay on time and been a longtime faithful customer like the guy did for chinoxl21. He said even though the promo is expired, i might be able to hook you up with a little something. he checked with his supervisor a couple times and finally said the words ive been waiting for all day; "Ok, buddy, i'm gonna go ahead and get you set up with a refurbed moto droid." He was really cool and ordered the needed accessories for me (since refurbs dont come with the battery or batt door) He couldnt find an available charger so he ordered a dock charger which comes with a charger anyway, so it was a +1 bonus. Cant wait til Wednesday! I like my eris but its been discontinued so it wont get any updates anymore and 2.1 (for eris) is gonna drive me crazy! Everything was smooth on 1.5. Also it seems motorola has much more faith in their devices than htc. The droid came out b4 the eris and is still around and in the spotlight even with the DX on its way and is planned to get 2.2 while the eris took a millennium to get 2.1. It's not being pushed aside like the eris was when the incredible came to play (it was pushed aside at the mentioning of the DInc! my opinion) Glad im going to have a device that will (i think) last long because it is the original... DROOIIID!

(sorry for the novel; my first reply to a post.) :)

This is how I switched from Droid1 to Droid2 back in September.

Long story short:
top right corner of keyboard started coming off after i was so in love with this droid1.
the first call i made the tech support guy said lets get you into a different device (D2).
He asked me what accessories i would be losing by switching and i said media station dock.
He couldnt find one in stock for the droid 2 so he gave me the verizon snap on case with the kickstand:))).
ordered everything else and here i am now.

not to happy with color but i guess its ok.

As you can see, i had to fight a bit the first time i switched but the second time the guy said right away "wow lets get you into a different device buddy!" after seeing i had 8 droid1's.
It depends on who you talk to. some VZW reps can care less about how many replacements you've had while others are actually generous enough to switch you to a different device if you are continuously having trouble with your current one.

I recieved my third Eris today, opened it up, popped my battery in, activated it..etc,

Went to use my trackball and it didnt scroll up or left. So i called VZW today, told the lady my problem, she offered me yet another phone so i asked to speak to a supervisor. So she put me on hold and said they were all in a meeting at the moment and then she said "Ok, heres what I can do for you, I can use your upgrade for a Droid 2" so they over nighted it with a charger and battery, and it will be here tomorrow :)

I've got my third Eris coming tomorrow for the trackball issue. I'm sure the trackball issue will crop up again. Hopefully, I can get a different replacement. It sounds like you just need to be nice but diligent in asking for something different. I'm so sick of this phone having problem after problem.

Are you guys like hard core track ball users or does your phone get exposed to a lot of dirt? I've never had a problem with mine. I've had mine replaced once for a bad speaker, but no trackball issues. It just seems odd that you have the same problems on that many different phones when so many others have none. Are all refurbs junk or is it environmental?

I never use my trackball ... ever. I wish it didn't have it. I think it probably gets dirty in my pocket, but the problem was there from the beginning with both phones. Every time I plug it in, it shoots to the left. With Launcher Pro it's a little better because it scrolls through apps on my homescreens instead of scrolling through each screen like on sense. I've kept both of these phones until it starts happening when it's not plugged in. This phone is freaking ridiculous, and the trackball gives me a legitimate excuse to get something better. I'll take the Droid 1. Just please give me a phone that works.

I have to say that my experience with Verizon and the Eris has not been a nice one. We went through 5 Erises before the 6th one has actually worked and worked well. (Been about 5 months now and I am keeping my fingers crossed) I spoke with over 15 reps and about 7 supervisors and could never get anything other than a refurb or an offer for another modelr paying for it at a discounted rate and extending our contract out. If it wasn't for Verizon's network I would of told them to p*ss off months ago. Although I am not holding only Verizon responsible for this, HTC made a lackluster product and shoved it out to market and made it as cheap as possible at the cost of the consumer. I know HTC is capable of more. My sister has an Incredible and has never had a problem. Because of this I will more than likely never buy another HTC phone.

if everyone is still getting refurbished phones there is a sort of solution

After receiving my 3rd Eris i had enough. I went to my local Verizon store and showed them the phone was messed up and told them that if something was not done about this issue, i was filing a consumer complaint and switching to another provider. They proceeded to then disappear into the back-room for a good ten minutes and come back out with a Incredible. (which i sold to my friend and got a Droid X)

You have to make sure that they realize how fed up you are and that you've played ball up to this point, but the update that they sent out screwed up the phone. Most hardware issues will be looked at like a user problem, make sure you mention how much the 2.1 upgrade messed up your phone. The Eris is an awesome phone, but Verizon has done as little as possible to fix the problems. I feel your pain guys, i almost switched to T-mobile and the awesome N1

I'm sure I will be the ONLY one who points out how backwards and twisted your philosophy is. And I am also positive the "Do as I say, Not as I do" Hall Moderators will either edit or Delete this post,
But who cares!

Because of what?

You getting an ERIS for free, like 90%+ of people did?
After having "6" of them, according to you, having one that works perfectly fine?
Or because your sister paid somewhere around 199$ for her improved and perfected next generation ERIS and according to you, it too has had NO problems with it?

Both sound like great endorsements as to why you SHOULD buy another HTC product!

But then again, Verizon commitment to "GET IT RIGHT at ALL COSTS", HTC's Beyond all Reasonable Expectations and almost unheard of in the Consumer Electronics Zero cost to the consumer, warranty replacement guarantee. And HTC's, as admitted by you, Constant product improvements and perfection in their production process. Do sound like more then enough reasons to never buy another one it some alter reality!

You really make no sense!

To the moderators, why is it OK for all of you to post insults, or condescending remarks, be they veiled or direct and Not OK for anyone else?
If you are going to "Enforce" Etiquette rules in an online Forum, You should really make sure yours is beyond reproach!

Nice veiled insult there about young Adults NOT having the maturity, responsibility or Social skills to discuss problems they are having with THEIR phones to an adult!

You may be the only one who read this as an insult. All I know is that if my wife has a problem with her phone (and she is not a young adult) and calls Verizon, or goes to the store, I would have had to give prior authorization for her to make changes to our account, as well as for my daughter (who is a young adult) or my son. My niece (who is a young adult) had to have her phone replaced (not an Eris) and she called her father from the VZW store in order for him to authorize the transaction.
