Car mount, will something like this work?

I plan on making a custom car mount and was wondering if this would work with our phones.

This way I could get music via the aux input and charge the device with just one connection. So that it can be easily "docked/undocked" in the car. One connection versus two. Does that make sense.

might work but the 3.5 is now at the top of the phone seperate from the mini jack so no need to put that in the charging slot

I know the 3.5 is up top (already have the phone), but will the one on the adapter also work. I could use the adapter I could leave it fixed in the car. This way the two cables (aux and power) stay in place and I just drop the phone into the custom dock.

This would be perfect if it works - one plug that would take care of power and audio...

For that price, I might just try it myself!

that's why i said it might but htc only pushed the audio through there cause it had no 3.5 jack. when i load hero on my g1 it still works but i can't garantee it will work cause they might be piping the audio through just the 3.5 and left the mini for just charging and connecting. it's a chance your going to have to take it's only 6 bucks to find out.

OK, I must be missing something here, I don't understand the purpose of this as a car add on. Both the USB port and the 3.5 are female, same as the phone, so the phone won't actually plug in to this without additional cables. Nothing in MY car accepts a standard USB connector, so I couldn't plug it in to anything there. I currently have an auto adapter in my car, and a cable permanently plugged into my stereo that fits the 3.5 jack in the Eris. I don't see how this device improves on that in anyway.
What am I missing??

The hope is that when this is plugged into the bottom of the phone, you will then have both the audio and charging coming out of the bottom of the phone. You can leave this plugged into the cig lighter and the aux in your stereo at all times, the just plug your phone in when you want to listen to it.

That would be sweet! If I rig this up in the car as a dock, it would plug into my car stereo for audio, USB for power, and a wired headset for when I get a call!! That would be perfect!!

Currently it works great, noted I have a wire exposed hanging on my rear view mirror. The usb extension and 3.5mm speaker wire extension is to reroute the wires around the A pilar to go underneath the dash and back up to my mount.

I placed the htc mic in my sun visor and it's clear and legible using my cassette tape player as my audio output.

I got the speakers for my wife's van since I don't lile the fm transmitter especially when driving long distance. You have to keep on scanning different channels. FM modulators ore better, but too much work and may void warranty of vehicle if not installed properly .

I just keep my Bluetooth ear piece handy and and turn on the widget on if needed.

This is the HTC adapter you need. There are two mini usb out, one is for the HTC proprietor mic and headset adapter and the bottom is for the usb charger. The HTC mic adapter will not work by itself, you need to plug in a line out or headphones. It also have and optional 2.5 and 3.5mm jacks if you do not have the mic. In my understanding some of the older HTC phones does not have a 3.5mm jacks, that's why they cam up with this option.

With this device, you can charge your phone and have the speaker phone features.
