Root Unrevoked 3 hangs on clockworkmod recovery screen

So, I'm attempting to root my phone using a windows xp machine... I installed the drivers as needed, set up the phone as required and started unrevoked 3. I selected the hboot usb as required by the process, and unrevoked ran until the point that the phone reboots to the clockworkmod recovery screen. Now, Unrevoked still says "Rebooting into recovery," and my phone is sitting on the screen with the following options:

-reboot system now
-apply sdcard:update.zip
-wipe data/factory reset
-wipe cache partition
-install zip from sdcard
-nandroid
-partitions menu
-advanced
-+++++Go Back+++++

it's like unrevoked doesn't detect that the phone has rebooted into recovery. I watched videos of the phone being rooted, and mine followed all the right steps... at this point in the video, once it gets to this screen, some text pop up, like it's running a script or something, and then the root is complete.

since it hung on this screen, I don't know where to proceed from here. suggestions?

okay... rebooted, phone came up as normal, and i have super-user permissions. however, i booted into hboot again, and im still at s-on. so the s-off portion of the process failed, which makes sense because the scripting that appears on all the how-to videos (which i didn't get- unrevoked hung at that point) seems to have something to do with s-off and unrevoked forever.

so what do i do from here to get s-off? should i try running unrevoked3 again, or download the unrevoked forever tool and use that? im concerned that since unrevoked 3 didn't turn s off, that it might not have done other things required to use unrevoked forever.

NOTE: when i ran unrevoked 3, the setting "disable security" or whatever it is was set, so it should have turned s-off.

I have never used unrevoked,I rooted using toast method.I believe if you do the Unrevoked forever you will have s-off which means nand unlock.

Do some reading on XDA.

Yeah, i assume unrevoked forever will do it... im just worried that maybe since it didnt shut s off, it didnt do other things required to run unrevoked forever, and when i run it, it will screw stuff up

Thank you for this post. I ran into the same exact problem, and was stumped. (I am far less experienced at this kind of stuff when i read some of your terminology) but i did restart the root process after running into the reboot system now screen. When i re-ran unrevoked, i was prompted twice for the HB boot option, which was different from the initial attempt i had with the program. I believe thats what fixed the problem, like you. THANKS AGAIN!!!

you can select reboot system now. that should reboot your phone. you should get a stock rom once booted. it will look stock. just to make sure that it worked you can power off the phone then press and hold power+vol down. this will get you to hboot screen. at the top of the screen it should look like this:

SUPERSONIC EVT2-3 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.97.0000
MICROP-041f

I keep selecting "Reboot System now" and it restarts goes through a series of connecting to my computor(you can hear it) and then comes right back to the same Recovery screen. If I take the battery out....same thing.....I'm not panicing yet, cuz I have done this many times before and there is always an answer!!! The problem is this is a new phone...so all the things I did to my previous phones may not apply....when it turned on it update PRL and Firmeware. Any help anyone can give would be great....spent so much time on it yesterday and I have to work tomorrow! Thanks!!!!

that is weird sound like you do not have a custom rom. not sure what happened with unrevoked. never heard of this. can you get to hboot(power off or pull the battery out then press and hold power+vol down)? if you can check and see if you have s-off. if you do have s-off (or if you can't then we can still try this), then you can try and flash a custom rom. there should be an option in clockwork mod (i think it is under advanced) where you can select usb toggle and connect your phone to your computer. just download and transfer a rom to your sd card. then toggle off usb and select install .zip from sd card. you can get them in ref#2 of my sig. here is a link for sprint lover's rom MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service if you want.
